Post subject:  Suggestions / Help with home karaoke system.

Hi all, I've recently setup a home karaoke system with the following:

- pair QSC HPR152i
- Yamaha MG82CX mixer
- Lexicon Alpha Desktop Recording Studio
- Gateway PC
- Shure PGX24/SM58 wireless mic

This setup is in my living room. To me it sounds pretty good, but some say it sounds flat, the music doesn't go with the vocal well, the singer sounds like he/she has a stuffy nose. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Could it be the settings? Or the speakers are too big for a room this size? Or maybe i need to add some more pieces to my setup? Please, any comment / suggestions is greatly appreciated. I'm very new to karaoke equipment, but have been reading these forums for awhile now.

WOW
Great home system.

Mixer has eq(three knob) on each mic channel, see if you can find a setting you like. Maybe try adding some effects, think reverb/chorus/delay.

Overall room acoustics also affect the overall sound of the system, hard surfaces equal hard sound while soft surfaces soften it. This effect is exaggerated in smaller rooms.

Add any items that would help???
Monitor for the singer, when the singers can hear themselves properly they adjust vocals better.
EQ???
Cheap wired mic(maybe a behringer xm8500) to see if it makes a difference.

How are your channel EQ knobs set?

The most common cause of stuffy nose syndrome is too much bass. If you have your microphone bass EQ knob set at 12 o'clock or even (horrors) boosted above center, turn it down to 10am instead. Then slightly boost the midrange on the mic channel while slightly (at most one div) cutting it on the music channel. Should brighten the vocals right up.

Or maybe you have too much. Don't overuse effects.

That is a great home system, and unless something is very screwey, then it should be pretty accurately reproducing your singer's true voice.

Maybe they ACTUALLY sing flat?
