I am looking for suggestions on a set of powered speakers. Right now I am considering the JBL EON515 or the Mackie SRM 450. These are just beyond the upper end of my budget. I have heard recommendations here for the B-52... a subwoofer is a good thing and the price looks great, but at 180 lbs, ... I don't think so. Any opinions? Thanks Revelator |

I have a friend who owns the B-52 system, and I have used it myself. I honestly didn't like it. The sub part was pretty good, but the satellites really lack proper range to be good sounding. Nothing I could do would make them sound any better. The weight really wasn't a big issue, unless you have to load it into a high profile vehicle for transport, then it would take 2 people to load. I really can't speak for the other two choices from personal experience. But, if I am not mistaken, I believe the JBL Eons are no longer in production. I could be wrong. Good luck in your search. |

QSC 's are all the rage down here. The 12 in powered speakers I heard last week were pretty awesome. Decent low end and at 1000 watts each pack a punch. I, personally use RCF and am very happy with them but they are a bit pricy. |

The one thing I have found with powered speakers is that you DON'T WANT TO GO CHEAP!!! If you can afford to put $500-800 into each speaker right now, and get something from QSC, JBL, EV, Mackie or RCF, then save your money. In 8+ years of live performance, I have gone through A LOT of speakers. Almost 100% of the time, when I purchased a "value" powered speakers, I had to have it fixed 2-3 times within the first year or two of use. In 2007, I finally saved up to get some high quality powered speakers, and they still sound and look brand new. So, in my experience, the cost of ownership for a good, quality powered speaker is going to be lower than that of one with a lower initial sticker price. Save up and buy something good, and you may never need to replace it! |

I suggest EV but most likely out of your price range. Next Choice QSC K-12. If this is for commercial use you still need subs. |

don't get the B-52 unless you can't afford something better. it is good for the money (less than 600 bucks for a powered system 10s and a 15" sub), but if you can afford it, get something better, and smaller if that is important. I am going to upgrade someday from b52 to something smaller (subw) and better. but I couldn't beat the value at the time. and I'm going to have to spend quite a bit of money to get a good upgrade. if you have 1000 to spend, get the b52. if you have 2500 to spend, get something else. |
