Someone i know is retiring from the Karaoke game and is selling his collection. The only part that interests me is his RCA karaoke. He claims that only Artists that recorded on the RCA label are on there..and that they use (more or less) the original RCA backings to the songs. Has anyone used them before? Are they any good??

Never heard of those. I have a set of the Motown CDGs that are the original studio recordings, and it is incredible how much better they sound than any karaoke recording. If you find out that these RCA CDGs are what you think they are, let us know, I'd love to track some down for myself!

They were an older short lived set from early to mid 90's. There were only 40 or so made if I recall. 4 songs per disc - multiplexed. I don't recall them being the original artist recording though and also do not believe that they were just RCA artists, I know they had a Boyz II Men disc - they were Motown.

I have four of them.
RCA 505 (Kenny Rogers), 512, 520 (Bonnie Raitt), and 528.
The Kenny and Bonny discs sound quite good, actually. The background singers are on key and the swipes seem to be ok as far as timing goes. I'm not as familiar with the songs on the other discs to compare to the originals, but they they sound fine to me.

Oh, and they are NOT the original backing tracks. At least not on the ones I have, but they ARE pretty good.

If Joe Chartreuse checks in, he can tell you about those sets. I think he said there are two different ones and one is better than the other. He must be off having fun somewhere.

Thank you for your good faith, Leop;

You may be confusing this set with the KK ( new SuperCore) sets. These, of which there are 45 discs, as far as I know, are a very good- but not great, or original- set of multiplex tracks. I like them a lot, but again, not original.

I like the DK versions better. Again, for those who complain of hering the "pan flute" in DK, if you sing in tune, you won't. That's why they are there- to keep amateurs in tune.

No--maybe I was confusing it with the Memorex versions--I thought I said I saw some on sale and you said some were better than others. Oh well. I figured you would know everything anyway. Sorry. Getting old.

I had the one with That Old Black Magic (Frank), Back Door Man (Doors), Killing Time (Clint Black) and I can't remember the fourth. Quite a mix eh? That Old Black Magic was terrific and the one by the doors was punchier and ballsier than the original. If you do acquire themn and you have these I'd buy it if you don't need it or get me copy, I think I still have the sleeve jacket.
