None exist that i'm aware of. Most video backgrounds are just something created by the karaoke manus - provided any still make videos. There was a short lived series called Original Footage that provided the original artist videos - but these were mostly 50's - 70's songs and very hard to come by. If you are looking for todays music videos for karaoke, 99.999999% sure you will not find any. |

Not if an ebay uses lists them as Original Footage VCD's and omits the words karaoke and CDG... I brought them at less than a £1 each and didn't realise what I had in my hands till a year later. |

Not common for English Songs; and like Lonnie said very difficult to come by. But if you are after non-English songs, then that is the most common format. In many cases, the video clips are that of the original artist. A standard format in most Asian countries. |

Disney Sing It is a video karaoke game that uses actual Disney video and music. Jonas Bros, High schl Musical, Hannah Montana, etc. My daughter loves them. Too bad they don't make them for karaoke shows. Actually, if disney does it for video games why don't the music companies do it for real karaoke? |

Because some of us prefer the blank screen behind the lyrics due to how distracting it is to the singer. Plus it takes longer to produce than cdg files. 1:you choose the song then you have to decide what the video behind the lyrics is gonna be then you have to hire the actors and pay them. once you do that you have to sync the lyrics with the music over the video. It is so much easier to just pick the song, pay for the rights to do it and then sync the lyrics and press the disc. |

Reminds me of my very first karaoke discs circa early 80's. The good ol' Pioneer Laser Discs with video background on all songs. What an space consuming 12" circular diameter discs. Cost $150 per laser for 24 songs, ouchh! ! Some Pioneer videos were kinda cheesy but majority were actually very good. They were big production videos like mini-movies and the videos were related to or has something to do with the title of the song. Anyway, this site claims they have original video footage and tracks of the original artist - but it's a VCD format. http://www.karaokecenter.com/ofvcd.html Just in case you're not familiar with VCD, they're a pain in the a**. It takes a long time to load, then you have to access the audio portion to turn off the vocals. Try that when a singer hand you a VCD and /he/she would be next. Definitely a minute or so dead air. . |

I have seen this on youtube before. You won't find everything...but a few years ago I remember there was a customer bugging me to get more Rell Big Fish in karaoke. I looked everywhere and couldn't find more than 2 songs available. I searched youtube and actually found the music video...instrumental with the words on the bottom of the screen. |

Yup, true - I visited his show a while back and sure enough, laser discs. People love the darn things. Glad I wasn't getting started in the biz when that was the only option for music. |

Yep! Still use them all the time. Tried to get rid of them once but found that most of our regulars really did not want to have them replaced, so I have kept them in service all these years. They actually came out in the latter half of the 80's, the first one in the series was copyrighted in 1987. |

I bought them at their Pioneer manufacturing plant, Long Beach, CA, 4 miles from where I live at the time. Anyway, PLK series 30 on up to # 50 - the background videos were truly amazing. My favorites: Trouble - Travis Tritt, Bohemian Rhapsody, Amarillo by morning, God bless the USA and many more. |

Nowhere on a VCD, DVD or Laserkaraoke disc is the option to turn off that darn distracting video. Only CDG based karaoke has the blank background that I am reffering to. Except for maybe the motown and the Taylor Swift discs there isn't any origianl artist karaoke inthe CDG format. |

I have been to a show a couple of times where the host runs a slide show of pictures of show attendees in the background. I don't really care for it - I think it my be only the audience that sees it, but it can make it difficult to discern the lyrics if you want to. |

We had one karaoke place 7 nights from 82-95 (completely Asian place), had all the high tech stuff, and didn't get Pioneer lasers until 87. They had foreign lasers before that, but the American music was supplied by tapes & lyric sheets.

But it doesn't matter the OP is looking for MTV videos - I am assuming the actual video of the song under a karaoke track. Not the cheesy manu videos. |

There was a thread here recently about a new karaoke software that would allow you to play a video background while a CDG file played and displayed the lyrics at the bottom of the screen. Now, I'm sure that you would need a separate video file for each song if you wanted this MTV Video feel but I guess that it could be done in theory if you had the time and desire to make it happen. I would normally mention the software for anyone interested but the thread about it was deleted so I guess "someone" thought that it was some sort of spam. I've seen some ads in bars that there are certain nights where the DJ plays these MTV type videos all night long so if you could get the videos for the most commonly sung songs, you could load the videos into the software before each song. It would take a little extra time but it could be done. |

Also, I can totally understand that a singer can be distracted by the background video, but my 9 yr old daughter does just fine with it. Everyone has their preferences. BTW, I think you should keep in mind that I was simply responding to the OP's original query re: 'real MTV music video karaoke files' |

You've seen this for cdg, not for actual videos, the lyrics are actually a physical part of the video itself and cannot be shown by themselves, a cdg is a separate graphics file on top of music so a background can be changed. |
