I need advice on the best program to use to scan my raoke collection on my harddrive that'll make my song-books?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are several programs to use. One that most seem to use (and I use it too) is Fast Tracks. Yes it is a little bit of money but if you are using karaoke to make money then this would pay for itself over time. Unless you can catch the "free for life updates" then yes you will pay every year for getting the updates. But with it you can scan your stuff and it will allow you to print your book in several different formats. You could also tag songs as duets and then just print out a duet book so that (MAYBE) people would pick a different duet then "Picture".
You could also just go the route of using excel, that is free except for your time.

Why would I care about updates when all I want it to do is scan my folders with the raoke and make a book out of that?

You can also check out Latshaw Systems who also offer a program to do what you want.

LOL....sounds like you got a bit of the captain in ya (pirate, that is).

FastTracks will scan your harddrive and make a karaoke book as well.

With any of these programs, though, the files have to be named in a certain format. Did the guy that sold you the hard drive have the files formatted in a consistent way?

I own complete sets of SGB and SF and ZOOM CDGs....I have a ton of SC cds too....I buy all the odds and ends from this raoke store in the mall and write down all the title tracks on the receipts just in case....So, no. I'm not really a pirate me thinks.

Just want to know the best program that'll do the best job with little fuss to get my books updated is all. figure this forum is the wisest place to ask such a question.

You will need to make sure that your karaoke files are named the same way; if you want to use the above program.

What program do you use to play the files?
MTU Hoster has it's own book maker
Compuhost works alongside Fast Tracks and cdgrip.
RoxBox has it's own bookmaker
Latshaw's will read from hard drive. name format must match.
Siglos works alongside pilot karaoke songlist maker.
There are others but out of the list, only Fast Tracks and latshaws will read off the harddrive.

Why would you need to be concerned with updates? Well if you get the program now and no updates then you buy more cd+g's over the next few months those will not be in the program. Updating will have those ones in there so if you do another scan of your hard drive it will find them correctly with out too many corrections needed by you.

He doesn't need a program that you manually input your disc numbers. The program he is looking for will read the file names off his hard drive.

I agree with others on Latshaw's Song Book Generator I use it and it is great will scan my hard drive and list all 10,000+ songs in about 45 seconds. Then you can print your books in various fashions, great program.

Oh yea it there are free updates to it but only to improve the program.

I use KAREN'S DIRECTORY PRINTER (freeware) to scan my hard drive and save the results as a text file.
http://www.karenware.com/

Then using Open Office's (freeware) spreadsheet program, I import in the text file, organize it into columns, and print my books (or you could use Excel)

BTW....All programs work best if your file names are formatted the same.

Not the only ones. I use Pilot Songbook creator. They also sell Power Karaoke software, so I would expect they used PK file system to test the parameters for their program.

You can read the files directly off the hard drive by specifying how they are named. So as long as they are the same in each directory you import, you shouldn't have much problem. If they are all jumbled, it may take some time to get them into the program. But once in there, you can specify the file structure you want and the program will rename all your files the same way.

It's a pretty decent program with quite a few new features since I first bought it. The makers are good at dealing with support too. I asked them for a new print format and they added it within a month.

You know, I just have to say:

You all ROCK!!! Thank all of you so much for the help! I'll be focusing on this next Monday and I'm sure I'll do alright and not pull all my virtual hair out due to all the love I've received in the form of advice from y'all....

So-far I'm quite impressed by this board. I'll be reading through the threads over the next few weeks and can't wait to make a few good friends....

Cheers!
