does anyone use a vocal enhanser for parties or shows. Thought it might be effective to keep the audience interested if you can change your voice from time to time. Can anyone recomend a good one?

Just FYI, I thought the same as you when I purchaced an effects unit with 100+ vocal enhancer models. I thought it would be cool to announce using the different voices.

HOWEVER, once I got to using it, I found that the crowd didn't really care, and even more than that, they couldn't understand me.

I'm not trying to discourage you, as I may not have given it enough of a chance, but that's just my experience. I have a DBX ProVocal.

I was at a karaoke show where the KJ thought it was funny to alter the singers voices as they were singing with one of those devices. I never went back there. My voice is just fine the way it is.

I think the OP is only asking about the enhancer for fun, not to make singers who are more serious about karaoke sound like daffy duck or anything. I think it would be fun if it was used just for people who could take a joke. Someone like BFFL is a more serious singer I take it. The host would have to know who can take a joke and who can't and be certain that the effect would be all in good fun. I have seen a digital guitar effect that does the exact thing the OP is asking for. It works for vocals and is programmable. I don't remember what brand it was, but I wanted to buy one when i saw what it could do. It could make a person sound all the way from Daffy Duck to Darth Vader and anywhere in between. It was only about 49 bucks too, just didn't the cash on me at the time I saw it.

Algae, good luck in your search, I for one, would think it would be fun.

Leave it to Bruce to get the worst out of a post.

I say if you want to change the sound, a little squelch on the family jewels will do the trick!

I bought the TC Helicon "Voicetone Synth" just for this purpose (fun!). However unlike the previous poster, I only use it myself or those rare few who ask. It's awesome when you want that particular sound, like the autotune intro on "I gotta feeling" or the radio/telephone effect on many songs. It will also drop your voice way down a few octaves...lots of fun on Halloween. My kids also love talking like Cylons in it.

I have sung Blackbird by the Beatles with the t-pain hard tune on before. Quite a head turner!

I was just looking at this particular unit just last night and watched a few demos on youtube. The guy was playing a guitar through it for the key changes. Can you send a full audio signal say from a pc or cdg player through it?

I suppose you could, but I am not sure why you would want to. If you go to the website, you can grab a PDF of the manual and view the different configuration diagrams. It's very versatile. I only use a dry mic, but guitarists can use it to do the Frampton "talk box" thing and if you add a guide keyboard to the mix it becomes a full-on harmonizer.

I bought the wife the exact same TC Helicon vocal synth for her birthday in June and we both can't stop messing with it. She loves it for Lady gaga. I use it for everything fron Jethro Tull to Black eyed peas. They are totally fun and our custies love it too.

Thanks to all the TC Helicon sound exactly what I am looking for . It will be done by me and it would never be used at the singers expense. Thats just bad business. But I think if used properly it will defiantely add to the interest of the show. Now off to shop on line. thanks again
