While you're putting all the work of re-ripping your discs into it anyway, why not? It's just one more added step and saves you a lot of headache later on. So go for it!

I have been re-ripping all my discs to 320 as some were at 128 and others at 192 and got to thinking about using a program called MP3 Gain to make the volumes on all the MP3's the same volume, I was thinking of using 90db which is just about as loud as you want to get before you get track clipping. Does anyone else do this? Is it a good Idea, I thought so because then I wouldn't be jumping at the knobs trying to turn up or down the volume depending on the song. Let me here your thoughts. |

I haven't gone through most of my older stuff, but as I add new tracks I have been normalizing them, yes. The unfortunate thing is the levels still vary greatly because some tracks are heavily compressed when they're recorded and the result is that the transient peaks are not that much higher in level than the rest of the program material. Conversely, there are plenty of tracks that have a much wider crest factor (ratio of average levels to peak levels) where most of the track is quiet but then the peaks are pretty severe. Normalizing results in these tracks sounding quieter. So since I have the luxury of compression on every channel on my console, I do run stereo compression on the Karaoke Tracks channel. It helps some but still isn't' perfect and has to be tweaked or bypassed for some songs (definitely not a set it and forget it item). Honestly I'm thinking if I really wanted to get this under control, I'd need to compress some of the songs with the wider crest factor (so first I'd have to locate them) and then normalize after that. |

Wish I would have normalized from the beginning, but didn't. If I ever have to re-rip my CDGs, I definatly will. BTW...Rip at 240+, for a lil better sound, hard drives are cheap if you need more space. |

I have run all my tracks through Mp3Gain. I used the default setting of 89db. It certainly does help but as letitrip stated it is by no means a set and forget thing. |

Why at 240 I'm re-ripping at 320 You don't have to re-rip them if they are unzipped you just need to normalize them the only reason I'm re-ripping them as they were at 128-192 to begin with and when I get a manu's set done I normalize them.
