Has anyone been able to overcome the lag issue with Win 7 & lag with vocals when recording multi-track?

I have been able to get the "live" vocals not to lag anymore - there had been a 1 or 2 second delay in hearing the vocals thru my headset or speaksers.

Now I stlil have an issue with recording though. I've found that recording with either Adobe 3 (trial version) or with Audacity, when I play back the multi-track, the vocals sound like slow motion and aren't in sync with the music track anymore. mp3 track zooms right along like normal.

?? ideas ??

I have latest sound card driver (Realtek), from what I'm reading it doesn't seem to matter if you're using onboard sound card or other - this seems to be related to Win7.

I've set the registry entry for my sound card from 0000 01 to 0000 00

I've adjusted the buffer settings in Adobe 3.0

I'm nearing the end of my rope with spending every night this week trying to get this to work

I don't think it is just an issue with Win 7. I record multitrack from a Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire using Cubase, and have no problems with lag.

I am far from an expert on recording, but thought that might help you troubleshoot.

all of the boards I've come across with this issue listed, people say they are having it on computers they upgraded to Win7, they downgrade again and it's not there. Some are using USB mic's, others using the mic jacks on the sound card. I should add, some people have bought new computers and ended up downgrading to XP again so that they could record again.

I'm seeing it listed under quite a few different sound cards.

My mic/mixer are connected using either the line in or mic jacks, same results.

I've always used Adobe Audition with my XP machine, never any lag like this.

It's like being in a fun house... playback is music at normal speed, vocal at a slowed down speed.

Bruce is right, it's a latency problem and you probably need an Asio driver

ok, well here's something funny

The ASIO driver did nothing for me.

BUT.. I think that when I actually posted this thread, I probably already didn't really have an issue other than I was recording over a bad file that had a delay already on it.

what happened was,, setup new computer
Downloaded Adobe 3.0 trial
loaded my mp3
hit record button on track 2 and it makes you save a file name upfront of recording, did that

I noticed the lag, did the Realtek driver update, plus the buffer settings adjustments, went back into Audition 3, put my mp3 back in track 1, when I was prompted to either save a file again, I just kept selecting that file I had originally created, and everytime on playback I'd have latency, but not on record.

Saturday morning I finally decided to just start over. Put that same mp3 in track 1, but when I was prompted for a file name, I entered an entirely new one. Recorded, played back and there was ZERO latency. So I think my original file from track 2 was tainted with the latency and it just kept haunting me.

STUPID me! I probably no longer had the latency even by the time I posted this thread. I should have known better and worked with multiple files, but I was mad at my computer, and working on it after spending the day at work when I really should have been doing something that was more constructive and kept beating my head against the wall instead (apparently I find that fun and stimulating )
