I am currently using a 20" lcd for my singers screen and am thinking of buying a new one. Was wondering what size everyone is using for the singers? I can get a 20" for $109 right now but it is a little bulky to carry in my case and was thinking maybe an 18.5 would be fine. But as I was going thru old post I found where someone had put up info on a 14" for $68. Well with the fights that have happened this year I am thinking the cheaper the better.

so post up and tell us your size

I've been using a black Dell 17" monitor I bought two years ago from the local Salvation Army store for $1.

Never had anyone complain about the screen size.

Built like a tank, not had any problems.

I've been thinking the last few months about replacing it with an LCD.. but i'm still a little afraid some dipshit swinging a mic around or a drunk turning around fast with a beer in their hand might take it out.

I have a 14" monitor for the singer. I also usually have a larger monitor for the audience -- I believe that it improves audience connection if they can see the words.

I use an old 13" TV for my singers.
Use to use a 19" LCD but had to sell it to help pay car insurance one month.

Well, for me I use a 15" LCD tv. I pack it in the same box as my books, small and fits nicely. And it's quite light too. I don't think I would ever go any smaller than this one I am using. I also have a 19" LCD tv for backup. Same type of set-up for it as well. I like the idea of the larger screen, but don't like the how I have to pack it for transport. I haven't had any complaints on my 15" at all, even for the older people, it seems to be quite large enough to read. I think there comes a point where a larger screen hides the singers too. I have seen someone use a 35" LCD tv put on a table in front of the singer. The singer usually gets lost behind such a big screen, I know I don't like to look at the back of a tv, hehe. My personal opinion, I would draw the line at your 20", I wouldn't go any bigger. Just my :2cents:

we have an older, 10" color tv next to the mic stands, and I also split the video and have it run through the 50" TV so young or old have no problem viewing the words. Peace, S.

I run a 15" for the singers, and a 21" for the audience. Most of my shows are in a small bar so the 21" is plenty because no place in the bar is farther than about 25 feet away.

I use a 19" flat screen on a stand for singers, and a 21" on my table for audience if there is no "house" tv. If there is a "house" tv, I turn the 21" around and use it for me. At our current venue, there is a LARGE flat screen for the audience that I patch into. On a side note, for you who have the flat screens, you can get a protective, padded carry case that wraps around the monitor, and clips on it in the back, it has a handle on the top so you can carry the monitor like a briefcase. I use these on both of my monitors, they are always protected while transporting, and while stored. I also leave the case over the monitors until I start the show.

I have an old 13" CRT screen for the singer, however with the lower cost of LCD screens will be upping that size to a 19-25" for the stage.

I use Samsung 17" LCD monitors. There are so many advantages to using an LCD monitor.

Ripman, don't know how to attach picture, or link, but the cases are available at Case Ace on the net. It is like a "gamers" site. It sells cases for desktops, monitors, playstations, etc. They have several different sizes for different monitors. Let me know if you can't find it, or if you have any questions.

ps. could someone "maybe" pm me with the instructions how to attach the url's, or pictures so I can do that in the future.

I wouldn't hesitate, you will love the advantages! Plus, it actually looks much more professional, if set up correctly.

American Musical Supply also has World Tour brand padded cases in many sizes. I just measured my 15" tv and bught the appropriate size. I have one for the tv and one for my Mackie mixer. Love 'em.

I use something I think called "travel desk on wheels" I didn't Google it but I did get it from my parents they used them for doing the family tree. They have a main opening that locks and has room for my laptop and monitor with a divider between them. Then they have an outside pocket for the external hard drive and another for the mouse and wires.. Works very well for it has an extend-able handle and wheels to tot it with

I use a 23 inch lcd from bestbuy for the singers and 2 42's for the audience. The picture is brighter and much clearer than the 19 i used before. And they're pretty cheap nowadays.

I run music videos at the end of the night at eye/seat level for the front tables which is appreciated by those guests watching pussycat dolls and beyonce shake their money-makers!

I keep the 23" lcd mounted (velcroed) on a music sheet stand and to date hasn't been knocked over...completely. And the OLD singers like seeing the lyrics clearly. -john
