Hi all I own my own sound company. I had a phone call today from a club owner that I have a installed sound system at, and he would like to start having karaoke every Thursday night. So my question is what program is the easiest to use and works the best? Also is there a website that I could use to download music at a gig like itunes or naspter? Also is there just a basic list of music I should get? Now there is a budget of course. I don't want to spend a ton of money due to the fact the club owner just wants to try it for six months or so to see how it goes. But I due believe buy once cry once. Any help would be great.
Thanks

I find Karma to be the best softwre for hosting karaoke. Simple to use ton of features.

No legal site in USA to currently download tracks. But some are on the borderline of legal.

Best bet buy the Sound Choice Gem series it will give you a great 6000 song start into karaoke.

The GEM series isn't worth getting if it is only a temporary thing because of the price. You can get over 6000 or so songs if you get the Chartbusters, the nutech and the DK millinum SCDGs off of ebay. Then you'll need a converter. www.roxbox.net sells one that will convert the songs to mp3+G zipped. Takes a little bt of time to convert but they will convert very easily. On the larger amount of songs I suggest converting them while you sleep. Total cost <$400 shipped.

As to software, Karma is as easy as they come to use once you get used to it. I prefer Compuhost but that isn't as easy to use as Karma. If I were to start over I would go Karma.

Take Danny's advice....thats the fastest and most affordable way to have a decent size karaoke collection. I have all of the SCDGs listed on that site. Once you have that base set...and you started working the karaoke show, I'm sure some karaoke singers will start to request songs. Here are 2 legal karaoke download sites I use.

www.buykaraokedownloads.com

and

www.selectatrack.com

select-a-track actually offers a catalog that you can print (about 400 pages). I printed this and allow singers to browse through and if they want to sing any of those songs...I let them pay for it! I have a wifi card and download it on the spot. Kinda like the way the digital jukeboxes work.

As far as the software I use....I never tried Karma (but I will now) I use virtual DJ and think thats the best software when it comes to mixing karaoke and regular music together.

I also agree with Danny as far as getting a good selection of music at a very reasonable price. I think that CompuHost is the most professional hosting software out there. It's not hard to learn. Once you do you'll be rewarded 10 times over. And not only is their software the best but their customer service is the best too. If you ever need them for anything they're there for you, and fast too.
