I now have 4 wire bags.
My mains lead bag is heavy.
Audio pretty light.
Lighting is heavy
Aux. is small.
It can take me up to an hour to wire up.
I feel with redundancy I use enough to keep a small airport in copper cable.

Any Ideas on reducing it...

Nothing really to say here except whatever you can keep hooked up all the time - like in the road case - this will help, otherwise the more stuff you have, the more cables/wires you are going to need.

With remotes about.
I know I can do wireless for video.
I know I can do it for Audio
I can also do it for dmx.
Would it make life easier or create other problems.

Well like I said in the wireless video thread, if you have a clean line of sight, you should have a problem going wireless, could worry about frequency interference messing things up on occasion, especially in the audio side.

Ok. I assume you get a clean signal from your radio mic.s.

Could I get a clean signal from desk to speaker (powered)

Never tried it, but I suppose so. Seems there was a discussion about this a while back, can't find the thread right now.

Actually, I started a thread a while back about wireless speaker application. The more I dug into it, the less interested I became. There are options out there for sure, but you either pay out the wazoo, or get junk,,, there is nothing that is affordable that is functional and dependable. Most gear I ran into was cheezy at best. There were some units that sold in the 600 dollar plus range (each) that looked promising, but for my application, I would have needed 6 of them, and that was just not feasible. The range was also in question. Most units I researched only had a range of about 200 feet, and I was looking at the 500+ range, and there just didn't seem to be anything that was that efficient.

However, with all my looking, I am sure I missed lots of sources, so I am not saying that this type of equipment doesn't exist, I am saying that I couldn't find it.

Good Luck in your search and let us know if you find the deal of the century, :)

i have been using the line 6 x2 wireless from my board to speaker (i use the Bose model II) and i has been a dream. it goes form 20-20k, and i finally got a drop out when i crossed 200 ft, and it is only rated to 100ft. all digital so there is no compression, there are 2 output configurations, one has cable simulation to roll back the highs like an instrument cable will, and a second full range wiring that is made specifically for running from a board. i even keep my transmitter inside the rack and the receiver velcroed on the backside of the Bose out of sight and still have not had a single issue even without line of sight. and i use wireless video as well, and for some reason, i got better results form the x10 video sender, the cheap $50 one than i did with $150 units (huh huh.....unit :oops: ) it definately has to be line of sight, but it does work well. i got extra receivers and leave them hooked up at the bars. when i walk in, i set up the bose, 2 power cords (one bose, one wireless receiver) and 2 1 foot speakon cables (for subs), and one power cord from the rack, and i am playing music in under 7 minutes. all other cables are in the rack and cut to size so i have no more than i really need. takes a bit of time to do, but soooo worth it in the end. sorry..... :oops: ....got a bit carried away and a touch off topic

I use Geffen to send video wirelessly to my monitor. One thing I like about it is that it uses Wifi to connect, so most likely there is very little interference. If there is, it has 4 multiple channels to switch. It automatically connects up on power up and I can use multiple input and either VGA or Component output on receiver side. It's a bit costly, at about $300 range but it simplified my setup. Oh, and I send the audio through it so I can also connect my little Fender powered speaker to be used as a singer audio monitor on the floor.

With that and my wireless mics, there is only XLR cables for the powered speakers. Rest of the cables are within my rack.

this one has done very well for me

http://www.x10.com/promotions/vk82a_wireless_tv_si.html

i know there are some others that work well too, but for $50, i have yet to have a failure. it also works 2.4ghz like wifi, and has 4 chanels. the only thing i wish it had was s-video input, but i just convert it to composite and all is good. i actually cut off the stock antenna and got a dual antenna extender for a wireless router and wired that in so i get 2 9db boosting omnidirectional antennas that way i can have my main tv up front and have another back behind the bar.

I reduced carry and setup time by prewiring all the bars that I work.

I figured I'd answer the OP's question with a listing of the cables I typically carry:
* audio snakes: 32 channel 150 foot; 8 channel 50 foot; 8 channel 30 foot
* mic cables: 12x50 foot; 20x20 foot; 10x10 foot
* speaker cables: 8x25 foot; 6x50 foot; 2x50 foot NL4 to 1/4"
* power cables: 1x100 foot 10/3; 6x50 foot 12/3; 5 8-20 foot 12/3 quad boxes
I added this up and got around 2600 feet. I guess I carry half a mile of cables! This does not include the patch cables and snakes that stay in racks or reach up to the console.

I store all these in a standard road trunk, except the snakes which are in their own case, and the 100 foot power cable just lays on the floor of my trailer since I keep forgetting to buy a reel for it. The road trunk is maybe 200 pounds fully loaded, and it actually looks very organized and is easy to pluck things out of, because I put three milk crates inside it to divide things up.

I think it's even more. Your snakes alone are more than a mile, if you count
each channel. I get 8,340 feet.

The house system is prewired so I roll in and hook up-

AC power to my rack
AC power to the singers video montior
video signal to the singers video monitor
video signal to house system(projector)
audio signal to house(zone)
audio signal to FOH
audio signal to floor monitor
3 mic cables to mixer

All custom made cables and nothing over 15 ft, so about 80-90 ft total.
But if things were not prewired, I'd have 3-4 times that.

Hey Jerry, I thought you Brits went by Kilometers these days. :angel:

They do have us metric to a large degree.
Somehow Kilometers were never taken on except for sport.
We seem to pick and choose as we feel fit.

I carry a big bag for wires and mikes but the only things I pull out of it is my Speaker wire and Mikes. Everything else I leave hooked up.
