Post subject:  Yamaha P4500 for EV SX300- will it work?

Hi all

Wanting your opinion:

1. Is the Yamaha P4500 Power Amp is a good match to my EV SX300s?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/YAMAHA-P4500-Pow ... _Pro_Audio

2. Can I use it to power larger 500W speakers at a later stage if I decide to upgrade?

3. Can I power a sub off one of the channels and my EV SX300s off another effectively?

Thanks

You shouldn't have a problem with that amp powering the EV. It's slightly underpowered for them, they should have an amp pushing about 600 watts per channel, this amp pushes 475.
It is an older series of the Yamaha P. IMO the newer amps are better sounding. Not sure what that price equates to in US, but it's seems kind of high.

Hi Lon

I knew I could count on you.

I might be totally wrong but I get the feeling power amps in general are considerably more expensive in AU than in the US. I have made a list of the price of the following power amps in AUD, and shown the equivalent USD amounts beside it at the current exchange rate. (USD 1 = AUD 1.11647)

Behringer EP4000
AUD 565
USD 506

Behringer EP2000
AUD 475
USD 425

Behringer EPX3000
AUD 565
USD 506

QSC GX5
AUD 699
USD 626

QSC GX3
AUD 515
USD 461

My twin is in New York, so if it does make a huge amount of difference in price I can get him to send me one from over there provided it will take 220V power supply :)

Are the USD amounts listed in my table close to the prices in the US or are they way off what you get them for over there?

Thanks

Yeah those are pretty high, I know the QSC GX5 for one example can be purchased for $399 new.

Do you know if the GX5 takes 110 and 220V?

Thanks

Vic
