| Post subject: | need help finding a song |
I have been digging around the net looking for a karaoke version of Lead A Double Life by Loverboy and can't find it. So I thought I would just make my own but every version I have bought for this song has been in stereo and I cant pull the vocals out. So I thought I would ask you all in here if you know of a karaoke version or a multi plex of the song that I can buy. |

Looks like you may be out of luck. Not available in any karaoke format as far as I can tell. As far as using a vocal remover to create your own, you want a stereo version, a mono version will not work at all. Vocal removers work in the manner of lloking for the same frequency patterns on each channel and cancels them out - which most vocals are recorded the same in both channels, but not always. A mono recording would have everything the same in both channels which no vocal remover will work on that recording. |

I'd never heard of the song until you mentioned it.. just gave it a listen.. sounds like a DEVO song. It's a very synth sounding simple song.. i'd bet using Audacity you could probably pull the vocals out of that with better than average success. I can certainly understand why nobody ever bothered to make a karaoke version of the song, though. |

I have bought and tried 3 different versions of that song and cant seem to get Audacity to remove the vocals not sure what I am doing wrong. I found on here where someone posted up the process with a video I followed the instructions on there but no success and help would be great. |

The problem may be that you are working from an mp3. It's best to do it from a .wav file ripped directly from the original CD. Also avoid the "Remastered Versions" of CDs (unusually found on a band's Greatest Hits). You can also try a 5.1 stereo separation from DVD of their music video, that is if they made one of your song. Keep in mind that removing the vocals from a track generally doesn't remove them 100%.. there's still a slight 'echo' left over from the original vocal track.. but not something that distracting when you're singing along with it. Kind of like the 'pan flute' guide in some of those Pioneer karaoke tracks. I don't have a copy of the mp3 or CD to try it myself.. but generally speaking, the less you have going on in a song, the easier Audacity is able to strip the vocals without degrading the overall sound of the track. If you followed the steps on that video and it has no effect removing the vocals, you're probably just missing a step. |

K. Thanks Kevin I guess I had never thought about that..... I will be in town tomorrow I will just pick up the cd and rip it myself. |
