I use MTU-Hoster to play karaoke and dance music. I did use Windows Media Player but it sounds like it has a built in compressor limiter (or something). WMP has a better song search than MTU. MTU works well for me but I was wondering if there's anything better. What do you use to play dance music? |

I use OTSDJ http://www.otsav.com/dj-solutions/ One of the best systems i've used for computer. Two players built in, the program automatically scans your songs and feels out the best fade in/fade out points - not just a set number so it actually sounds like someone professionally mixing, can automatically beat match as well. Plays audio AND video plus it can even do karaoke - although I haven't used it, and heard their is now a rotation program plug in you can download free for it. Built in dynamics (adjustable) like compression, limiter, eq's, automatic gain control - again all user adjustable or use the presets (which i've never needed anything more) so all the music no matter how different in volumes will all come out the same without killing the sound of the song dynamics. I've done many shows with this and has never had night that glitched. I run it continuosly in the background as my fill player in my regular club shows. I highly recommend. |

Very good program, I also use: http://www.mixmeister.com/ For DJ heavy gigs. Either way, great programs. |

I run a seperate DJ program in the background. Not enough flexibility with MTU's product and the DJ program gives me the advantage of having TWO additional aplayers in the background. I can keep one with "special stuff" like sound effects and other sound bytes. |

Mix Meister gives you 6 players, TRAKTOR PRO gives you 4 at once, etc. I do agree, the more the better for EFX, music, etc. |

I use Virtual DJ. Easy to use, fun features. I know there are others, it's just what I use. |

There is a very simple yet powerful program called DJMixPro. It's free to try it and it's only about $50 to buy it I think. You can learn how to use it quickly and it's easy to run. It can be set to automatically crossfade a playlist and you can sit back and do nothing while it runs. Although most DJ programs and players will do this too. It also has beatmatching and some other nice features. If you don't want to spend ANY money there is a very good program called Spider player that will play nearly any file format you throw at it including mp4 files. There is a very inexpensive pro version upgrade that allows you to do recording and some other things. It will auto-crossfade from song to song too. It's very stable and it's very easy to create playlists by dragging and dropping songs into it as well as up and down within a list. I've been using it for a couple of years and it works GREAT. Lots of folks like and use winamp, but I'm not a fan of it and I don't recommend it. I used multiple versions of it over the last few years and I personally don't like several things about it. |

I used to use PCDJ, but found OTS to be actually more powerful in it's fade in/fade out points. Plus it's actually easier IMO. |

If straight DJ, I use Virtual DJ as well. I can sync, beatmix, loop, use special effects. It's a fun program, my friend uses it for karaoke as well but I don't like that feature. |

All those programs seem to be really good but I don’t see thing good enough to make a change. Right now the only thing I don’t like about playing dance music on MTU is the song search. Thanks guys! |

That's the main reason I don't upgrade my Hoster. Their search is straight from the 1970s, exact string only. |

Virtual DJ. is what we use, cant really see any reason to change. It has all the bells and whistles for a DJ or KJ, combined in one software package.... |

For bumper music, I have an old Dell laptop and use WMP on it - I also have jump drives with different theme music on them if needed. I leave it running on separate fader, have 86 hours of music on it, hit random, and what plays is what plays. Can get a real variety that way - Manilow to Haggard, Gaga to Flo Rida. When I DJ, I use two lappies, one with Monkey something on it for DJing - I think it was free or close to it, and the Dell with WMP. I also have a CD player sitting there should I require that. I have some regular music on MTU - like "Cupid Shuffle" so I can drop it into the rotation - plays only the music, not a karaoke version. Just find it easier to drop it on there than anywhere else...btw, i search for "cupid s" and it pops up - but I'm a very fast typist so doing a search is nothing. I've never had issues with hoster's search function but I do choose odd parameters on a search. |

I use SAM Party DJ, it's a great piece of software. Dual decks, configurable and automatic cross-fading, search as you type capabilities, supports all major file types including AAC and Windows Media even with DRM. It does beat matching, pitch and tempo shift, and you can even have it play music direct from an internet stream just by supplying the URL to the stream. It has support for sound FX and Karaoke (although I've never tried the Karaoke piece). I can't say enough about how nice a package it is. I started using it because I had previously used SAM Broadcaster when I was still doing my radio show to stream my show from the studio in my basement to the radio station. SAM Party DJ is almost identical except that it doesn't support streaming output. I'd strongly encourage you to check it out. It may be overkill for what you need but you may find that it's just what you've been looking for: http://www.spacialaudio.com/?page=sam-party-dj |
