Post subject:  Kid Show Report

We did a Boys and Girls Club event in a park this past Sat. We didn't have the overwhelming response that we get at our local club where every single kid sings but once a gang of girls broke the ice with Taylor Swift it got going.

For our area, Taylor Swift's first two albums were more popular than her new songs which they said they didn't know yet. Miley Cyrus has fallen off with only "Party in the USA" done. Selena Gomez was popular and we got to hear Justin Bieber's "Baby" 3 or 4 times. Michael Jackson is still a must. The age range was from 1 to teen. The older teens did "Bleeding Love" and "Kryptonite." They wanted rap but we had to take alot of those songs out of the books due to language/content. They even nixed "Highway to Hell."

Now that I think about it, we didn't hear any country other than Taylor. At our local chapter the little boys like Tim McGraw.

This was our first outdoor event and we were curious as to our speaker power. We just have 2 Yamaha Clubs but we only needed to be heard by people gathering around and not broadcast to a stadium or bleachers so we figured we would be okay. The speakers blasted the entire park and weren't even turned up very much. There were some songs that even had "chest thumping bass" and we hadn't used the enhancement button on the mixer. Maybe not the best by some standards but they did the job for us.

Oh--rotation had to be adjusted somewhat to allow for the next singer being tied up in the face painting booth. Another thing was the sprinklers went on in one section of the park and we were informed that meant we had 20 minutes before they went on where our equipment was. We tore down in record time--luckily we were just a few feet from a building and we could run the stuff inside and then pack it up neatly there. Guess sprinklers will be something to ask about next time we are outdoors.........

Yes but you have really nice gear to power it.

I love my club 15's. Paired with the 18" sub they are more than enough for any gig I do and sound fabulous.

As for kid events, I have done a lot. You can;t escape the Taylor Swift. At some shows it gets to the point that we started counting the times "Love Story" is sung. We hit 8 once.

Our worst was when the older kids weren't there one day and we just had tinies. "Wheels on the Bus" was done 42 million times.

we did a fundraiser at an elementary school "carnival" a few months back, and i lost count of how many times "baby" from justin bieber got done. we bouhgt a bunch of disney disks for the real little ones, but they all went in a circle singing Beat It, Thriller, Billie Jean, And back to Thriller. at least the younger kids are showing taste in music i guess :D

They seem to want "the real thing." I got High School Musical--never done once --and the Cheetah Girls--one song done once. They wanted Kid Rock songs I couldn't let them sing. One 4 year old who couldn't even read yet wanted the Scorpion's "Rock You All Night Long." Also had requests for Akon. Fireflies is another modern hit I forgot that they love.

The tiny almost can read kids do like the Nursery Rhymes. When we tried to steer them off of Wheels on the Bus they tried some Big Kid songs but couldn't remember how they went as much as they thought they would. We have also had luck with calling up any kids who can't read but want to sing and having them do the chorus of "High Hopes." Believe it or not, they knew all the words to that oldie.

They all seem to know how to line dance, also.

I feel for you on the Justin Bieber. It is a bit different then a bar or show in a restaurant where you have customers who might be put off hearing the same song done more than once. The kids are mainly just singing to themselves and they don't seem to mind repeats and in fact gather round and sing along. So like you, we let them do it. Over and over and over.........
