I don't know if Mr. Grimes gave up on us but if he hasn't, can we please know if the Chartbuster SDs being sold by Ace Karaoke are licensed for karaoke show use or just for home use?

Also--what is the new "Register Your Product" link for on the CB site? I tried following it through to see but it just went round in circles.

Thank you.

I'm probably going to feel real stupid for asking this but what are "SDs"?

SD- Secure Digital Card. like what a lot of cameras use. that would be cool. 50 songs on 1 small card. an entire library could be kept in something the size of a 50 cd case.

Ace Karaoke is offering 50 track per card CB SDs.

A couple of years ago I heard rumors of something like this, but those rumors also spoke of encryption, and auto erase in the event of an attempt to copy. I don't think these safeguards apply here though...

Okay, that's what I thought. Thanks. I wouldn't want to purchase those as they are too easy to lose due to their small size.

They're going to be the way of the future. Soon, you'll be sticking a card in your DVD plalyer to watch a movie. They will replace discs.

I don't believe so as the cost of manufacturing SD over a DVD is too much. A DVD is nothing but polycarbonate and aluminum (and very little aluminum at that).

I think you will find that tiny will win on this one.
It does not cost much to make the SD.
The mini SD is awesome.

If that is true why is a 4gb SD card $20 for 1 while 4.7gb DVDs are $20 per 100?
SD - $5 per gb storage capacity.
DVD - $0.47 per gb storage capacity.

SD - $5 per gb storage capacity.
DVD - $0.47 per gb storage capacity.

But you forget that the most any DVD (barring dual layer) will hold is 4.7gb. The cost for making one is the same, regardless if you use 1 GB or the full capacity of 4.7GB.
The same applies to SD cards
The largest Standard SD cards have an official maximum capacity of 2 GB, though technically they can store up to 4 GB
SDHC (High-capacity) cards have a maximum capacity of 32 GB.
SDXC (eXtended Capacity), a specification announced at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, allows for up to 2 TB cards.
So if you compare the storage space on the largest cards with how many DVDs or CDs it would take to make up the equivalent, you'll find the cost is significantly lower.
The cost for making one of these is still going to be the same as well, regardless of the capacity. When the price goes up for the larger capacity cards, you're not paying for a higher production cost. You're paying for the convenience of having more storage space on that card. Cost of production is the same, whether it's 1GB or 2 TB.
What you will find is that eventually, DVDs will become more expensive, just like CD-Rs did. At one point, CD-Rs were far less than $1 each and now they are back up to double that, while DVD's are much cheaper (less than half that, if you find a good sale).
This is because DVDs are more popular and sales are brisker than CD-Rs.

Wow that will be neat! Movies on a card! I can even imagine the future beyond that. To that far away day when we don't use a physical media at all! Imagine the day when you can sit down at your TV, Game machine or Laptop and watch movies on demand! Streamed right to you in real time and full HD quality! Maybe even to your iPhone!

Boy that'll be the day. I hope I live love enough to see it.

I watched a full length movie on a 4Gb SD card about 2 years ago.
My son watches films on his phone often.
Will never get why they like a small screen.

The media (CD, DVD, or SD) isn't what costs, it's the information on them. Sure one of the SDs could hold thousands of songs but can you afford the thousands to buy one?
