What are you guys/gals using for a USB Audio Interface with your laptops?

It has worked well for me thus far, but if it craps out or I finally get the drive to buy something else I think I will look closely at the one Lonnie has reccomended and others have bought based on his reccomendation and are very happy with. I believe it is the Lexicon Alpha that he reccomends.

Not big on Creative home based products - which the above is. For that price, seriously look at the Lexicon Alpha for $20 more. Nice interface, pro 1/4" balanced jacks. It rivals (if not betters) the sound of my $200 M-Audio Audiophile PC card in my stationary computer.

This thing has been thrown around like hell and just keeps on ticking. I know I should upgrade, but is has been 100% since I bought it.

I would not recommend it if you are using Windows Vista as the drivers can be a bit tricky. I don't think it can be beaten for the money. I use midi a lot, so the soundfont features come in handy when I am not using a virtual synth.

Amazing. Wonderful sound, 1/4" jacks, volume wheel for each channel, sound activated lights for each channel. Low, low noise, never an issue in over a year.

$99.00 at Guitar Center, etc.

My Mackie ProFX board also have it's own card (USB out) which I'll use as a back up if this card ever goes bad. Then I'll buy another card.

I use the Behringer UCA202. It's basic, but works just like it should, never had any issues with it at all. You can get one for around 30 bucks.

+1 for the native instruments audio2 dj
same DA converters as in the audio8 dj that all the top name club DJ's in LA use.

I did use Behringer UCA202 and it works good, but now I use Native Instruments Audio 2 dj and it sounds great.

The NI aren't even balanced outputs for that price. Nah, i'd still opt for the Alpha.

Well, to each his own I suppose. My ears say killer sound. But, if it don't work for you, move along, nothing to hear, here.

Were you able to tell a substantial difference between the UCA202 and the Audio2DJ? If so, in what respect?

pro DJ cards do not use balanced outs. higher grade D/A converters, lower THD, and generally higher output levels drop the noise floor rediculously low. that, and less than a foot of cable make S/N ratio over 100dBu

It has a better review than the Lexicon Alpha

I'm not a techie so I don't why. But I do know good sound. The Behringer UCA202 produced a thinner sound than the NI. I had to help the Behringer with the mix. With NI I had to pull everything back and still had a more full sound and with more punch. It's about as close to a live band as I can get. (That's how I want to hear music)

OK, I'm going to pick one up. As far as it not having balanced inputs/outputs, unless you have perfect hearing (20 to 20,000 Hz)(which I don't), I'm affraid I wouldn't be able to tell a difference. As you get older, your hearing diminishes, usually starting in your 20's. So, such little nuances like that aren't important. But! Overall, I can tell the difference between good sound and bad sound. From everything I've read, this little device is the ticket to great sound and you've just confirmed that.

I've been using a Behringer U-Control UCA200 for the last couple years, into a Mackie 1202 VLZ board.

No problems, sounds great.

One of these days i'd like to replace both the U-Control and the 1202 VLZ with a Mackie ProFX 12 that has the USB interface built in.

You will lose sound quality, the VLZ has MUCH better preamps than the ProFX which are the same as the CFX series.

It's only a 16bit sampling rate when most others are at least 24bit which theoretically should yield a higher dynamic range.
