We all know that occasionally a KJ will sing a song during his/her show. What is it with some singers who want to ask you a question or shove a book in your face talking to you while you are singing. Now last night ... they looked right at me ..saw my lips moving and I assume heard me singing and this person continued to talk to me all the while I'm singing and pointing at the microphone I was holding. I eventually had to stop singing and acknowledge their next song request Did you ever ? I know most singers here would never do this |

It happens I'll take slips when I'm singing and have even stopped singing to help someone that was persistent. It's annoying, but happens so rarely. I give the one finger gesture, but it doesn't always work. I figure my first obligation is to the patrons, so I just put up with it. It is truly amazing people can't have the common Courtesy to wait until your done singing. |

I'm with Babs! It never ceases to amaze me how thoughtless people can be. It happens to me too. I'll be right in the middle of singing and someone comes up and I'll motion to hold on I'm singing and they either start talking or ask me if I've heard of this song or that song. It's crazy but I put up with it. |

Rude for sure, but unless there is a policy of no one else at/on stage while someone is singing, it is likely to happen. I don't know why it is likely, but it just seems to happen. I guess you could wait until it is their turn to sing, and then go over and ask them a question on their hand-writing while they are singing. Jam, I don't get this..but it does happen at my shows as well. Maybe, we're just not a good enough singer! It *tinkles* me off a bit, I usually use the (1) finger, just a minute salute. Sometimes, they just keep talking. (Rude) At other shows, I make it a point to wait until the host doesn't appear to be busy. MrD |

Happens to me too. I usually use the one finger gesture (though sometime I'd love to use the "other" finger gesture) and turn away. That usually gets them the hint. I have one who literally waits until I'm announcing or singer before coming up to bug me. He see I'm not busy while the others are singing, yet waits! Drives me bonkers. Last week, I literally watched him waiting. He could have come up to me at any time while the previous singer was doing their song, and I made sure he saw that I was not busy, yet still he stood off to the side waiting until I started singing my song! ARRRG! I finally told him flat out after I was done, that the time to talk to me is NOT when I'm on the mic, but that he needs to come talk to me when I'm NOT using the mic (Duh!). |

if the 1 finger gesture doesnt work i turn the mic to them and broadcast what they are saying over the system. only did that a handful of times but each time they came back hat in hand and apologized and we held hands to sing kumbaya........well.........at least we got back to a good ni9ght and they never did it again. never had one get upset over it either. |

That's brilliant! I like the idea of taking the mic and pointing it to them. I guess they can sing while I take care of their question. |

When that has happened to me while I was singing, first I would hold up one finger. If they persisted, I'd hold up one finger again. After that, if they STILL didn't get the hint, I would stop singing, and say directly into the mic the following : "What??? What??? What the h3ll is so Godda#@ed important that your rude, ignorant a$$ cannot possibly what until I've finished my song? Well, what is it? C'mon! Out with it!" Believe me! It NEVER happens a second time! |

That's happened to me several times over the years.. although, I rarely sing at my own shows unless I really get the urge, or I need to sing one to get the crowd going and in the singing mood. Sometimes people just don't realize it's me singing, they're either just not paying any attention.. and it doesn't help that when I do sing one, i'm usually sitting behind my booth. An easy way to prevent that from happening would be to grab the wireless and stand out there were all the other singers stand, or wander the room. |

I agree patrons come 1st and I'm not a SINGING KJ per se'-- I'll sing to open the show and then maybe again if it's a slow night. It just amazed me the other night I know they saw me singing but they just didn't care or it just didn't register to wait a 1 minute. |

Well, if the patron was so drunk they didn't know what was going on around them, at least the bar probably sold them some booze! |

It happens to me nearly all the time, if I've been asked to do a duet I will do my best to ignore them until i have at least a five second breather, usually the interuption is quick and easily dealt with. IF they interupt the duet to the point of being disruptive I will stop the song and restart it. If I'm singing, and they interupt to the point of being disruptive I just stop the song and deal with the customer and then move onto the next singer on my list. Sadly it's a sign of the times, one of the last cabaret shows I did, involved a queue of patrons, taking turns to whisper in my ear their requests whilst I was singing. we live in a world where you can have everything you want instantly, people no longer have any patience (which reflects in their manners). My regulars are self policing and tend to highlight to the repeat offenders that they would like to hear me sing (since in some venues it tends to be very rare due to the length of rotation) and in some cases they try and stop them before they reach me. |

It's actually a compliment......they think your just playing some filler music, or you're lip syncing.......it means you sound like the real deal..... |

Happens to me every now & then. One time I'm just about ready to start singing my Tom Jones' ballad "I'll never gonna fall in love again" when a lady approached me and ask me when her turn's gonna be up. So I told her the list is up there in one of the screen tv's. 5 singers at a time. She said she knows that. She just want to know if I start from top to bottom or bottom to top. Of course, I missed a good portion of the song. I was so ticked, can't hit the high notes, lost my mood I quit singing in the middle of the song. My regulars told me that's one of the reasons why I'll never gonna fall in love again. Another time, another lady (if I can call her that) stood in front of me in the middle of my song with a question. I gave her the "give me a minute" one finger sign, but with her request slip on hand start waving it in front of me. I stopped singing and ask her what. She said "Sorry to interrupt but I can't find this song in your book" Grrrr! Well, at least she's a little apologetic. I just started laughing, didn't finish the song either. Well, it comes with the territory. I guess if you're the host you have to be approachable anytime regardless of the circumstances. |

Never happened to me. The few times I have sung they were in stitches. Couldn't talk. |
