Post subject:  Help Needed

Hi All,

Now the following may be obvious to most of you but I am a techno idiot! 8)

I have a Roadstar DVD2551K Karaoke/DVD player. It has 5.1 surround sound and on the rear of the unit it has jacks for FL,FR,RL,RR & FC which are presume are all speaker outputs. Can I just plug in 5 speakers to these jacks and away I go .. or do I need another connection somewhere. I have the player connected to a small 15" flatscreen TV via a scart.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, [/img]

That player is not a home theatre system, but just a DVD player with karaoke.
It has no amplifier of it's own. The outputs you mention are phono/rca outputs for
connecting to a Dolby 5.1 capable amplifier. You could also put it into stereo mode and just use the red and white outputs (FL/FR) to connect it to a stereo amplifier.

You could hook up powered computer speakers to the RCA 5.1 outputs on the back of the unit. That's really what these are designed for. Like the other poster said, you could also hook up the red and white RCAs to a pre-amp/amp/mixer to get stereo sound.

Just beware that your typical powered computer speakers or even larger home theater speakers are not really designed for vocals. They'll be fine at nominal volumes, but if you expect loud live music output, you would have to get a PA system.
