Post subject:  Advice of My Setup Please

Hi All

Came back from holiday and now myself and the family have the Karaoke Bug. lol
and want to get a setup , so was going just to go out and buy any model.. but then started to read up on this on the internet, about the right speaker, and mic, and watts of the amp v speakers. I found out that there was more to this than just getting a chap model.

I only want a setup for the house, in a room 16 x 15. for me and the 3 kids to have fun on and for them to develop there singing voices. so want a better set up than a basic one, I have narrowed it down to the following, and would like to ask if this setup would be ok for home use. and for any input.

Pulse 500W 12" Disco/PA Speakers

VocoPro DVG-777K Multi Format Karaoke Player USB/DVD/SD or RSQ NEO NK-2000U Karaoke Player

kam 580s microphones

kam silver dwarf 2 channel dj mixer

KA-36 5 CH STEREO KARAOKE AMPLIFIER

kind regards

What would all that cost, I am willing to bet for the same price you'll be able to do MUCH better in most respects.

For home use and especially for your own family where your business, income or reputation isn't dependent on a perfect karaoke "show", I personally would go for an all-in-one unit like a VocoPro Duet or higher end model. Zero set up time, minimal footprint, and waaay less adjustment you would need to make (mixer wise) for the fixed number of singers you are going to have.

Heck, I sing/practice on an all-in-one RSQ KaraokeStar that is more than adequate for even my home parties (200 W).

For home use, what you list is probably just fine. Like Lonman said, through, for the money, you could do much better. As a general rule, anything marketed as a "karaoke" product is about twice the price and half the quality of good, name-brand live music equipment. Find comparable items from Yamaha, Wharfdale, JBL, DB Technologies (one of my favourite British distributors), Mackie, D&B, RCF, EV, Peavey, even Samson and Behringer for home use.

After all, despite LOTS of opinion to the contrary, karaoke IS LIVE MUSIC!!

Check out this link: http://www.stagebeat.co.uk/index.php?page_id=554

Most of those packages would be great for home use. Just add a karaoke CDG player, and you're good to go!

Anyway, if I were you, I'd stick with lower-end equipment while you are just starting out, and focus on learning how to use it and what EVERYTHING does, and how to troubleshoot problems. When you are comfortable that you have the hang of it, and you have that system sounding AS GOOD as it possibly can, given its limitations, you will also know what those limitations are, and you can start upgrading components one by one.

Warning, though, once you pop, you just can't stop! Most of the people on this board will be upgrading PA system components until the day they die!!

One quick follow-up to Topher, some of those brands (JBL & Yamaha for instance) also make home stereo/theater equipment. That is not what Topher is suggesting and don't make the mistake of buying a pair of stereo speakers thinking they're a great deal for karaoke. You're looking for pro-audio equipment here, things you'll find on www.jblpro.com or www.yamahaproaudio.com.

Can you maybe do a quick conversion rate on the costs above? I don't have my calculator with me.
