Oh my music is on a laptop, and I have a small amp, speakers and everything else. Just have'nt tried going through the mixer yet.
Sounds like you have a home theater receiver and home theater speakers, correct? Otherwise you would not have been able to previously get any sound out of a PA amp and speakers without a mixer.
A home theater receiver is really the same thing as a mixing amp. It is a pre-amp and amplifier in one.
Adding a PA mixer to a home theater receiver is going to give you a bit more flexibility and upgraded microphone preamp, but isn't going to change your overall outputted sound that much.
As always, the VOCAL part of karaoke is live music, and while it does not REQUIRE a PA system to actually get a sound, the dynamics of live vocals require a PA setup as opposed to a home theater setup at higher volumes and energy levels. If you are not happy with the sound of your current system, you may want to look into upgrading to a PA amp and PA speakers. Just adding a mixer is not going to fix much if you are running it into a home theater receiver.
