Karaoke Scene's Karaoke Forums :: Connecting to dual screens?

I have a new show where they want me to connect to my monitor but also connect to their tv and show the words on both. I am not sure what I need to be able to do this. Do I need to purchase an additional video card? Is there anything else that is needed?
My laptop has s-video and vga. The tv I can connect via the s-video and the monitor via the vga however they don't currently both work when plugged in at the same time. What I would like to do is clone the monitor and tv screen while extending the laptop to the monitor/tv. Does that make sense?

You shouldn't need any extra adapters or converter boxes. Connect the tv via the Svideo and set the computer via the display properties to EXTENDED desktop. You have to make sure the TV is plugged in & turned on (and set to that input) in order for the computer to see it (in many cases). Once the computer is set, all you normally need to do is start your karaoke and when the words start, grab the lyrics box with the mouse & slide it over to the 2nd TV.

What kind of TV is it that you want to connect to. If it's a flat panel, it probably has a VGA input so all you would need to do is get a VGA Splitter like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=3521446 (there are also non-powered version of these that you could get much cheaper, however if you have any runs over 10ft I would recommend the powered splitter to avoid signal loss). If their TV does not have a VGA input then a splitter like RLC recommended or one like this would work: http://www.grandtec.com/products/video/untimateEZ.html (that's the one I use, it's powered and works great, I've had all ports running at the same time in one case and it handled it well). So Lonman, are you saying that a video signal can be sent simultaniously from both a vga output and a s-video output from the laptop to a monitor (vga) and a tv (s-video) with no converter box? I didn't think that could be done. I was under the impression that only one video out source from a laptop could be used at a time.

Decide which video out(VGA or Svideo) you want to use, you only need one. Then use the appropriate Y splitter, or converter box to distribute the video signal from that video out. This depends on the available video ins on both monitors/tvs. If any monitor/tv is a long run, you may need to use some type of video amplification. There are many inexpensive gadgets out there to solve just about any a/v need.

I did not mention using both VGA & S-Video simultaneously, being a laptop I would use the laptop screen as the host monitor, then the S-Video extends to the TV via an S-Video connection (may need to manually adjusted in display properties). I did misunderstand that in the OP that he wanted to use both VGA AND S-Video outputs. That i've never tried.

he needs to go VGA and S Video at the same time. that lil connection above I paid $24.00 at Radio Shack before I found out about Monoprice dot com right here in this forum. a few years back.
