Hi guys, newbie here i've been hooked with karaoke bars for years now and now considering turning my study room into a karaoke room..

I've rounded my choices to

-. Yamaha MX-82C mixer
-. RCF ART-315A powered speakers
-. Shure SM58 mics

My study is about 10x10 square feet and i insulated the room walls and ceilings with stereofoam but uses ceramic tiles for flooring to give some room for the sound to bounce.. Had to go through this hassle since I still live in an apartment complex

I wonder if this is going to be loud enough for my room ? Can I go lower to RCF ART-312A without the need of a subwoofer ? Thanks before guys

I wouldn’t recommend using a sub on a 10x10’ space. RCF ART-315a would be nice but 312a also has a good bass reproduction, I’m sure you will feel the bass from that speaker as well. You might want to consider adding BBE Sonic Maximizer for more bass/hi-freq as required, not to mention it will also give your sound clarity and fullness.

I don’t know about ceramic tiles to let the sound bounce. The end result could be an “echoey” sound reverberation, but then you have insulated walls and ceilings so I would guess you probably have enough absorption. Let’s see what the pro-techies have to say.

I had a friend a local DJ help me setup my room but when he saw my room he said this will work in a hall but not in my 10x10 study and if i insist on using the existing gears i may need to add parametrix equalizer to balance the echoed vocal

He said I'm better of using the BMB or other karaoke branded stuff since the they have better 'digital echo' effect for small room application ? I'm confused now since it seems not to be in line with what the techies here recommend ?

Please advise me guys, I'm confused now whether to return all these gears and exchange it for the BMB stuffs. Thanks again

I believe it's because he doesn't know what he is talking about. With the proper settings on the MG82CX, you can far exceed their "digital echo". Try the 1 setting on the Yamaha, and play with the parameter knob. You could also try 7 (which I use for country) and 10 (which I use for oldies).


That would be like exchanging a BMW for a Ford Focus, in my opinion.

I think BMB (Better Music Builder) units are low-end products good for home use. They will not withstand the rigors of non-stop high energy gigs. One time I sub for a friend using his system with new BMB CS600 speakers. “Tinnie” sound and distorts at high volume. I do like one of their units at first, the BMB DEP3000 Digital Echo Processor. It has since been replaced by a better unit - Lexicon.

This will be a fine home setup, plenty loud enough and better quality. Your DJ friend that recommended you get the BMB stuff defintitely sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. You are not going to need a sub - especially if you are running this in an apartment.

Well I ended up returning the RCF ART 315A anyway apparently the $800 price is per speaker i thought it was a pair

After another search at this forum I think Behringer B212 will be something that suit my budget.. Since it's a $800 cut and behringer having very few praises in this forum..Will the behringer really sound better than those BMB stuffs ? Will I need a sub since it's now a 12" speaker instead of 15"

My budget is around 1000 or less plus mics and installation stuffs any other speakers I can try ? thank you

@Lonman how about the parametric EQ he's talking about is there any weight on that opinion ? or will i be just fine with only the mixer ?

The Behringers are not going to sound as good as the RCF speakers, but will still be fine for home use and yes still better then the BMB stuff.
I've never used a parametric eq for my shows, I have put them into live band rigs on occasion, but for your purpose, it's more than you will need.

Is it really that bad ?? ....

I never purchased any PA speakers before... but not a stranger to home audio...Felt so dumb when the big heavy ups box came up and it was only ONE speaker ...
