For the very little dance music I run I just go with the disco era. |

Good luck ...After midnight...after Auld lang syne...Go Cheesy......get a Conga line going.......then a bit of "Cha Cha Slide"......There's loads of UK tunes that probably wouldn't have the same effect in the US...IE "Saturday Night" by Whigfield...But anything that gets em doing a special dance is a must |

Thanks, Dave. After midnight, I intend to slow it down a bit. I'll be so tired by then, the crowd starts thinning out. Still a lot of decorations to take down, by 1:30 I hope I'm out the door and headed home. |

If you have the time, when I'm looking for new and fresh stuff, I go to Rhapsody, plug in one artist I know for sure has some good dance stuff (e.g. Usher), listen to their stuff, look to the right and see who is similar...you can spend hours doing that, but I have found some really, really interesting stuff that way. I have playlists of dance tunes and most of what I use is already listed in this thread. BTW, Enrique Iglesia's "I Like It" is a great tune... |

I gotta feeling hasn't run its course yet? I'm sorry, but so darn redundant. I try to stay away from this year's 'has beens' and stay more current. Even Kesha - Tok has been booted from my playlist until it's acceptable to bring it back. Party in The USA is kinda in the gray area, but it's destined to be a party favorite. Depending on your crowd, Cee Lo Green's F&CK YOU has never gone wrong for me. Surprisingly, many people haven't even heard it yet. Bust A Move is a good one for all generations. That I don't think I saw up there. |

I wish I can include Cee Lo Green's "F**k You" in my playlist. It's a good upbeat dance song, except the lyrics are explicit. Song is so good it was nominated for the Grammy's record and song of the year. It was released on PopHits Monthly December Pop Edition. Didn't make it in my song book either due to suggestive language. If I play that song grandpa and grandma with kids in tow will be out the door in a flash, but before they do gramps willl come to me first and curse at me, like "F*** You for playing that song". For the benefit of those who haven't heard it yet, here's the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pc0mxOXbWIU |

Honestly, not a lot of the new stuff (this year, last year) well light up the floor. Poker Face-Lady Gaga OMG- Usher. Some old tried and true--- worked well for me last night at a last minute gig: Whoomp (There It Is) - Tag Team Billie Jean - Michael Jackson Jump Around - House of Pain Baby Got Back - Sir Mix Alot Shout - Lloyd Williams (Animal House version) Strokin' - Clarence Carter Cha Cha Slide - DJ Casper Cupid Shuffle - Cupid Macarena - Los del Rio (yeah, still works) Summer Lovin' (grease medley) - Olivia Newton John and John Travolta Stayin' Alive (remix) - N-Trance YMCA - Village People (works well late with drunks) Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice Gettin Jiggy Wit It - Will Smith Dancing Queen - ABBA Boom! Shake the Room - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince Pony - Ginuwine Here Comes the Hotstepper - Ini Kamoze Can't Touch This - MC Hammer Hip Hop Hooray - Naughty By Nature C'Mon N' Ride It (The Train) - Quad City DJ's Shoop - Salt-N-Pepa This DJ - Warren G Tootsee Roll - 69 Boyz You Should Be Dancing - Bee Gees Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas Brick House - Commodores Hot Stuff - Donna Summer Get Down Tonight - KC and the Sunshine Band That's the Way (I Like It) - KC and the Sunshine Band Boogie Shoes - KC and the Sunshine Band (Shake, Shake, Shake ) Shake Your Booty - KC and the Sunshine Band I'm Your Boogie Man - KC and the Sunshine Band Celebration - KC and the Sunshine Band Funky Town - Lipps Inc Do Ya Think I'm Sexy - Rod Stewart Those songs should be in every DJ's library. There are others and you wouldn't want to play all these every night but you can't go wrong. Typically, newer stuff earlier then switch to the proven oldies! Read the crowd. |

SBI has the clean version of "F**k You" called "Forget You" on their website. They offer clean versions for a lot of the explicit language songs. |

I have the "Forget You" version and depending on the audience and venue, the person who sings it will either say "Forget" you or the other. I had someone pretty well demand that I sing it the other night - "Oh gosh, I don't even KNOW it yet." Yah right. |

Speaking of Warren G, Regulate works for me too, as well as Rapper's Delight ~ Sugarhill Gang. I LOVE throwbacks, so I put in the occasional TV Theme, like Laverne & Shirley, or Reading Rainbow. People get a kick out of that stuff. |

One possibility for folk music, New Years Eve Party is to hire a DJ to perform at the party. It is a good choice because they tend to play a wide variety of dance music and is a master at reading the audience and what kind of music to appeal to them. Encourage public participation is another advantage of hiring a DJ. noise power should be considered a DJ. DJ has to decide whether to sign the agreement to ensure, in accordance with the rules. |

Monir Sider Natasha2010. Let me get this straight. Are you saying that dj's are better than kj's because "they play a wide variety of dance music and is a master at reading the audience & they know what kind of music to play?" "Dj's can encourage crowd participation because of the noise power? Well, excuuuussse meee! I'm in the wrong business! . Sorry, I'm just teasing you. But kidding aside, to quote someone I can't remember who / "You are entitled to your own opinion, but not to your own facts". Cheers! |

It's ok to dance at karaoke. I play filler music in between and sometimes people dance. If you are gonna be negative, leave! |
