My wife and I just moved into our dream home. Expecting our first child in February. Now we have found that our new neighbours are Bogans. Bogan = Australian equivalent of a Redneck and love to blast their stupid Sony 7.1 stereo with 2 x 12 inch subs all afternoon. I have no issues with the high frequencies, but the lows just seem to travel through the ground and into our house. Most of the time, I have noticed that they are OUTSIDE the house when the stereo is blaring at its loudest. I have spoken to them several times already, but they do not seem to get it. Is there a way I can ruin the stereo or subs, or atleast get them to send it to the repairers for a few weeks? Thanks Vic in Sydney |

I used to live in a trailer when stationed in Mississippi and the Guys next door would turn their stereo on at night loud and then get drunk or go to bed I don't know which but I asked them repeatedly to turn it down, then one night when they did it I just walked next door (2am) and pulled the lever on the power box sending the whole thing into satisfying silence. About 15 minutes later I could hear them banging into and knocking things over in their trailer (cuz no lights) trying to figure out what was going on when they finally turned the main breaker back on their stereo blasted and I guess they figured out that it was to loud. Never had the problem again and they never knew who did it. Check the local noise ordnance maybe the cops can say something. I know what you mean about the bass thumping we get idiots driving by with subs so loud that you can feel it in your chest, I'm just glad to know that they will be deaf and have internal organ damage by the time they reach 40. |

If you got a bigger system fight fire with fire... .....if they were USA rednecks, you could drive them nuts with some gangster rap, or some classical music....course this could lead to a bit of gun play..... |

I've got approximately 10,000 watts I could bring to bear on the problem. It would NOT remain a problem long. |

Thing is - I have my own 18 inch sub and PA system that I use for my gigs. I could very well set it up in the garage and drive them and all the other neighbours totally insane. Or I could just plug in the sub and position on their side of the fence. I just refuse to stoop to that level, unless there is no other alternative. My sub is bigger and louder. Is there any other way? I am considering a Logitech Harmony remote, so I can blast their stereo when they aren't home. That way: 1. Either their sub will blow out 2. Someone else calls the cops on them |

Years ago, I lived in this 4-plex, and I lived in one of the downstairs units. There used to these 5 young men living upstairs at one time.. And they used to be very loud. I had kids at the time, and they had school on the weekdays. These 5 boys had this boom box that they would play music til all hours of the early morning. I had to tell them to turn it down several times. I told them about my kids needing sleep for school, but they didn't believe me that I could hear it. Now mind you, I really got along very well with these 5 young men, so I didn't want to call the police, but I did want to make it clear to them that the apartments weren't sound proof by any means. So, one day, I decided to make them see how badly this complex was built. I asked permission from the other tenants because they had the same issues. I had this home stereo that was pretty good and high powered. I turned it up to just a 2 (out of 10) and it was so loud, it actually was knocking the pictures off the walls upstairs and bouncing cans of soda pop off the table onto the floor. The boys came running downstairs to see what type of system I had, they actually were quite excited about how it sounded. When I showed them that it was set only on a 2, they just looked at me dumbfounded and realized how they were causing my kids and me grief... problem solved. The 5 boys and I still stayed friends, and my kids got their proper sleep. Long story short, if you like these people, just show them how it affects you at your house and how loud it can be. Maybe it will sink in. |
