I have an external drive with about 40,000 zipped karaoke songs and would like to unzip them all.I am told this will help with the occasional problem with a song lyric freezing or lagging behind the music.I can go back and reload that song after this happens and will not have a problem. If some one could tell me how to acheive this or recommend a program that will do it I would appreciate it.I am using Karma and am curious if anyone has had this happen and how it was corrected

That's a lot of songs.
How did you zip them in the first place?
You don't have a bloody clue do you?

I have a server running ms server 2003 with 5 DVD-R/Ws. It will rip 5 CD at a time at around 15-20 minutes per group. This is roughly 225 tracks per hour. 40,000 song rips would with no breaks and no failures take me 7.5 days to do and the 2,666 CDs @ $10 each would cost over $26,000. This is a low estimate. typically someone in the karaoke business for 5 yrs or more would have somewhere around 20,000 songs with a lowend investment of $15,000 in CDs alone not to mention other equipment.

Now someone who has spent that much to buy or used that much time to rip would surely know how to manipulate a zipfile. There is only one way to explain this so why would anyone legal help someone appearantly illegal manipulate files which could then be used to take gigs away from legal KJs?

HUMMMM !!!!

I kinda wonder why a person could go to ebay and buy a 40,000 song drive of illegally copied karaoke music and come to this forum full of legal KJs ask a laid out question as in post 1, get valid answers and the posts be left in the forums by the mods and admins. This is not a knock just an observation!

Sounds more like a computer problem, rather than a ZIP problem. Usually the "hosting" program first UNZIPS the file, then plays the file. Therefore the file being played is already UNZIPED, which in reality, if your computer is running correctly, takes only a couple milliseconds.

So if you are getting lagging lyrics/music it probably is a computer problem

Well I’ll tell ya worky,
Someone asked a question and I offered an answer…I did not offer illegal advice nor instruct someone how to do something illegal.
I did look up other posts by the OP and nowhere did I see something that yelled blatant pirate…therefore I did not assume the OP is in possession of illegal music as apparently you have. And for you to somehow imply that the OP bought a loaded hard drive off of ebay is a dangerous road to go down…you know absolutely nothing about the OP.
I am not surprised by your post however because it is very apparent (yes, I have been reading your posts also) that you are obsessed by karaoke piracy…of your 18 posts on this forum 15 posts have been about karaoke piracy, but hey, that’s ok…whatever turns your crank ….just keep it in the piracy thread please, that is what it was created for..the topic of karaoke piracy and those who are obsessed with it.
I have seen times in the past where a poster will post a question…short and sweet, without having to go into their cdg owning history, and those that wrongly assumed the poster was a pirate. Nowhere do I see any requirement by this forum that a poster must submit to an audit before asking a question.
Now, maybe I am wrong and maybe the OP’s music is illegal..who knows?…Oh yeah…you do, because you are a legal expert and seem to have crowned yourself the self professed authority on karaoke piracy. (remember I said I had been following your posts also)
And finally in your own words “This is not a knock just an observation!”

I'm with Jerry on this one. If a person has a hard drive with 40,000 songs, it is highly suspect that it is illegal.

Many of us who have been in this business for 10 years don't even have that many songs, let alone someone just starting out.

With that said, if the OP did indeed purchase all of the CD's and ripped them to zip files, he wouldn't be asking the questions he is. It also doesn't look good that he is very new to this forum and is asking about this.

All indications point to illegal activity. Not making any accusations, just forming an opinion.

Combined with the fact that they didn't zip themselves.

The easy answer to the OP is "Use the same program you used to ZIP them to UNZIP them".

To the OP:

Do you own all of the original discs (not copies) that those 40,000 files came from? If you do, I welcome you to the forum and apologize for any misconception I may have had.

If you don't, you are operating illegally and need to walk the plank.

Been at work all day so I am a little late replying.I purchased this setup from the wife of the man who did the karaoke show in the bar we own for $4500 after he passed away. The setup is several cd books with about 1200 disk, windows xp,and no song books.I may be way off on the number of songs ,I just know when you open the files it goes on forever.I have recently bought some new disks and found a free download (cdg rip) to rip to a drive.I am not a computer whiz and was askin a question not realizing it would offend someone.I maybe stepping on the toes of someone who feels cheated because I choose to do in-house karaoke....sorry about that but it's economical to me.By the way we have our ASCAP and BMI license which I know a lot of bars don't have. Thanks to the ones that give the benifit of the doubt before jumping to conclusions.

I chastised jerry with my comment and am happy I was wrong about it. Cotton if you're inhouse, then why don't you look into safeharbor from Sound Choice. It will protect you from the lawsuits that have been going around.

1200 discs at 15 songs per disc comes out to 18,000 tracks. I don't think any apologies are in order just yet. Someone selling 40,000 songs and a karaoke system for 5 Grand is just another red flag. Maybe Sound Choice should audit the guy just to be sure. If he passes that audit, I'll be first in line to apologize.

I agree cottons has my apology.

However RLC, a post such as his by an ebay buyer pirate would have still got the response he got both positive and negative. I don't feel bad about my post or my stance. Illegal copying is killing the karaoke business and this hurts us all! Oh and RLC I think cottons talks for himself just fine!

Bruce if you choose to respond to cottons post about 1200 discs why did you stop there and not read his next statement? Just wanted to take his comment out of context?

You know, sometimes when people get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, they create a story to cover up for their actions. You can choose to believe him if you like. I'm still a little suspicious.

If a pirate's wife sells you an entire karaoke sytem for pennies on the dollar, does that send up a red flag or not? There aren't that many "legal" KJ's that have 40 thousand tracks in their library. I'm wondering if the 1200 discs are originals or copies on CDR's? This guy seems to be quite ignorant when it comes to all things karaoke and may have been talked into a bad deal........or maybe not?

I guess it's time to open the file and start counting so I can get an accurate count (might have to use some vacation).I understand the concerns and I can't say that I'm offended ,because I'm not.Like i said I pay ASCAP and BMI knowing full well that most of the bars in my area don't.It ca grate on you at time but all I can do is make sure I keep it legit and not worry about the other guys.I may eat my words about the in house stuff because I can see the money running up with amps, speakers and frequent updates not to mention paying some one to run it for me.i guess if I can't get my money back and always give it to my kids to entertain friends with.I really do appreciate everybody's input but this caused more of a dust up than when I have a waitress work 3 saturdays in a row.Time to steal the KJ from the bar down the road...just kidding ,we already have some business cards (don't want to hack off a fellow bar owner)
