For you Compuhost users, months ago I went thru my entire DJ library and renamed the files one by one. Half were ok so I tagged well over 5,000 songs. Why did I do this? When using filler music, the search function was having trouble finding songs I was looking for. If the song was tagged with "02" in the first column, it seems that's all it could find. Plus any misspellings at all and bonzi! Hmmm I suck at spelling! Anyway, now as I add songs, I go in and retag each one. Huge pain in the butt but since I did that, when the karaoke changes over to DJ and I don't want to switch software to Virtual DJ, I can play it thru my filler music player, find it fast and get it right up if needed. Before that there were times I couldn't find a song even though I knew I had it. So every DJ song I own is tagged in the name column in the following format Artist name - song title. If I have2 versons, I list one as "ive" or "2" after the song title name. I don't bother with the other columns. I wonder if other software has this issue or other folks have had this issue with Compuhost? Also since I cleaned up the tagging, when I'm running strictly DJ, the Virtual DJ likes it as well! |

Did you also happen to tag the MP3 files in the embedded ID tag? If not, do that too. |

Seriously thought about it but would have taken much more time and it wasn't necessary for my present needs. Hopefully it won't come back to bite me in the behind! |

I have actually been undertaking the same project. I used "1st mp3 tag editor" and it was literally a godsend. I cannot say enough good things about this program - and I used it on the trial basis - so it didn't cost me anything. |

Check out MEDIA MONKEY for your MP3 tracks. This is pretty much the DJ industry standard program for automatically updating metadata and file names, and in many cases automatically downloading album art. And it's FREE! |

I bought tidysongs on advice from a guy I know. $40. Biggest waste of money I ever had! Supposed to do artwork too. I'm very anal about my artwork. I've went so far as to put a picture of the 45 if it is a song that I deemed came out before the album and created the need for the album to be made or if it was only released on an album. Many times tidysongs would go for the "greatest hits" album artwork and album name. I would venture to say 90% of the time. And I found many times it tagged the song name entirely wrong. Was a pain to check each song out to see if it was correct when I could do it faster myself. Are these programs you guys talk about similar programs? |

Media Monkey is FREE. Check it out, and if you don't like it, uninstall. I would jsut say that is has a SLIGHT learning curve, so be patient and learn how to use it before you give up on it. It is FREE after all. I had about 6000 MP3s on my hard drive in a million different filename formats and almost no cover art. After about 3-4 hours on Media Monkey, I had everything in a standardized format with all metadata filled in and about 60% of the cover art. If you don't like the cover art that populates through the automatic functionality, you can manually choose the cover art from choices associated with each song, e.g., greatest hits cover vs. orginal cover. It is a REALLY good program. There are tons nationally touring DJs that use Media Monkey as their transport and organization program. It is as good as anything out there for sale, and it is FREE! |

If you have all your files named to the same format, many of the free mp3 tag editors can batch process and fill in the embedded tags, pulling the need info from the file name. Do it NOW, don't wait. |
