I am happy to report that I took the advice and scored 1-2-3-4 shows at "the other bar/s". Friday and Saturday at both bars - full price after 2 weeks.
I'd like to thank everyone who chimed in that I don't have to settle for the bar owner who tells me that they are going to reserve me on Saturdays and think they can tell me what I will get paid.
