When time permits, all of my shows end with two or three group songs... I try to get everyone on the floor for the last 10 or 12 minutes. Oftentimes there'll be a medium, then an up-tempo, and end up with a gospel song... This always goes over very well, and has been the subject of many compliments. If you haven't done so, you might want to give it a try... depending on the crowd of course... A typical example of a three song set to end the night might be: The Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight; Olivia Newton-John - Let Me Be There; Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - I Saw The Light Others songs that have worked well include: Dobie Gray/Uncle Kracker - Drift Away Dawn - Knock three Times Gospel - I'll Fly Away Rock/Crow/Urban - Lean On Me CCR - Bad Moon Rising The criteria would be... easily recognizable to a broad range of ages; and not too slow... Anyone care to add to the list?? Cheers Earl |

I'd rather hear the next 3 individuals in the rotation sing another song. |

Hmm, have to post my favorite group song, and yes, towards the end of the night is a great time to do when everyone is feeling "good". The nice part, is there is only one word. "Tequila" |

Amen. I second the motion on that one. There's this one club I played years ago, middle age group patrons. They just love to close the night with an oompah accordion dance song called "The Chicken Dance". Funny to see these guys having so much fun flapping their arms imitating a chicken. When I played that tune everybody knows it's a wrap. |

There is this Bar that I used to do 2 shows a year there (Halloween weekend and New Year's Eve), where the Bar Tender/Partner would request I always close the show out with "American Pie," and gather everyone up to the front to sing along. |

Obviously, that's your perogative... I'm just saying it works for me, and all my singers enjoy it. So, to get back on track, the question was "would anyone care to add to the list"... Apparently you don't. Cheers Earl |

Well Bruce... You're obviously determined to hi-jack this thread... So, go ahead... You win. You've got the spot-light... I wouldn't dare argue with a "super duper poster".. Feel better now?? Cheers Earl p.s. I just can't wait till I'm a "super duper poster" so I can put these newbies in their place too... |

Earl, ignore Bruce if you can. Old habits die hard for some people. OK, I have done a similar thing myself when the rotation is shorter at the end of the night. If it's a long rotation, I don't do it. But here are a few that I have done. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen Do Wah Diddy - Manfred Mann Hit the Road Jack - Ray Charles Goodnight Sweetheart - Spaniels Closing Time (obvious) - Semisonic most anything by Bon Jovi We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions - Queen There is an endless list to choose from for sure, these are just a few of course. Our 'next 3 singers' would rather close with a group song if they couldn't all do an individual. And yes they do return & request these for closing group songs (again) if they know they won't be able to do an indiviual song for their last. Sometimes I have time to do a group closer, other nights no. Our top requested 'group' closing songs are (for the last 4 years) Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen before that they included Na Na Na Kiss Him Goodbye - Steam Goodnight Sweetheart - Spaniels - older crowds |

We've used Will The Circle Be Unbroken, but then again we're quite country. |

Sloop John B would seemingly be appropriate with its' going home theme. |

Thanks folks... We have used "Will the Circle Be Unbroken", and I'll be adding "Goodnight Sweetheart" and "Sloop John B" to my list... I'm afraid "Freebird" might not work but "Sweet Home Alabama" might... and, strange as it may seem, I've never had a request for Bohemian Rhapsody (or Freebird for that matter), that I can recall. So that might give some idea of our typical crowds. Predominently country and oldies... which is not to say we don't have a few Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber fans too. Keep 'em coming. And thanks again. Cheers Earl |

One that's always worked well for me is Don McClean's "American Pie". I've also done Semisonic's"Closing Time" and Brad Paisley's "Alcohol". I too enjoy doing one group song to end the night and you know what? Since it's what I do at every show, I don't have any problems with the last 3 singers being upset. First, because they expect it, second because I'm a good enough host to plan my rotation appropriately so there aren't 3 last singers waiting to sing. Don't don't worry about Bruce acting like a D/B, you'll have to forgive him I mean after all his sh!t don't stink. How I usually do the group song at the end of the night is I'll announce that I'm all done, then tell them they have one last chance to sing. I also tell those that didn't sing tonight that now is their chance with no pressure because it's a group song. I then leave all four of my mics up front, turned on and invite people to just come grab one and sing along with me. Start the song, I start singing, they join in and almost every time without fail the whole bar, club, etc is singing along by mid-way through the tune. It's a great way to end on a high note, everyone leaves with that event most recent in their head remembering how fun it was. |

It won't matter to me -- every karaoke show that I've closed up I have been the host for. |

We used to go to a show where, at midnight, the host would get a mess of people up on stage and have them do the chorus on "Midnight Special." |

It's a great way to end on a high note, everyone leaves with that event most recent in their head remembering how fun it was. All I do is post my opinions. Everyone is free to agree or disagree with me. When they don't agree with me; I don't resort to calling people Dirt Bags or Douche Bags or whatever else D/B might stand for. I'm sure that my crap smells just as sweet as yours does MISTER LETITRIP. If anything, you are the one who portrays himself as an export of sorts, and probably rightfully so. I'm just a guy who likes to go to karaoke to sing and hear other people sing. The idea of a HOST choosing to sing AMERICAN PIE(almost nine minutes long) at the end of the night is just incredibly selfish (IN MY HUMBLE OPINION), WHEN 3 PEOPLE COULD HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO SING ANOTHER SONG. Once again, after being insulted, I will take the high road and refrain from the immature name calling. Am I sorry for having opinions that differ from the pack???? NOT A BIT! LOOK WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMEONE DARES TO HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN THE MAJORITY..... He gets called names and sarcastic responses from people who just don't happen to agree with him. sigh! |

It is ONLY stating an opinion that is different than yours. I didn't stoop so low as to patronize you in an effort to be sarcastic and "cute". But you go right ahead and keep acting defensively. Did you really expect 100% of the population to agree with you??? |
