Hmmm.. I am confused.. I saw Party Tyme as one of the current companies that do Karaoke, and looked up a video on YouTube, and it seemed as if it was just a (quite good) backing track + words onscreen, but no lead vocal.

Was this just because the lead vocal was turned down in order to record it to YouTube?

Is there a specific format that includes vocal tracks that I should be looking for when shopping at WalMart? Is there something specific to look for on the DVD cover that will tell me it is sing along, rather than straight karaoke?

Thanks again for any clarification. I know these are simple questions, but I don't know what I don't know at this point..

Hopefully I can get some advice on a decent home Karaoke system that includes lead vocal tracks. Explanation: I am just not one of those people that can sing solo and make it sound good at all. If I sing along with another person, or with a lead vocal track, I can adjust to the flow of the song and it sounds really good. I have some older DVDs that are labeled with "DVD Karaoke", and they are a Pioneer product. We are looking for basically the same thing as these, which have music videos (generic actors/singers) and includes the vocal track of non-original artists. We had a ball last night, and all I did is hooked up an old microphone to my guitar amp, and threw each of these DVDs in. I would like a system that had a full list of songs in this format. I may be expecting too much of a home system, so I may need to buy more DVDs of this nature. If there is no home Sing Along Karaoke machine that fills these needs, can anyone suggest a current company providing these type of sing along Karaoke DVDs? Thanks for any help you can provide.. The post above nailed it for karaoke with vocals. You can find Party Tyme or Karaoke Party discs at your local departments store. They don't have the video that the old Pioneer discs do, though- just the lyrics. A very simple yet very good home system: While I would not use VocoPro for professional purposes, their Duet II all in one machine has a very nice sound and all the features a pro machine has including Digital Keychange, 5 band EQ, separate mic volume controls, plus a master volume control, digital echo, music to voice balance, etc... You can also record your performance internally direct to a cassette without regard to outside noise, and there is a separate deck for dubbing. It also has an AM/FM radio, and can be used indoors, or connected to a car lighter for use outside. It's about 90w, which is fine for home practice, and it's what I use. It's WAAAAY better than the machine ( probably an Emerson) that you will find near the discs in the department store. Caveat- Don't pay extra for a built in monitor, just hook it up to a TV. Their monitor isn't the greatest.

Russ Many (not all) karaoke CD's will include a vocal track (with lead vocals) as well as a performance track (no lead vocals). Sounds like your wanting these types of disks. Just check the track listing when shopping for your CD's.

After you get used to singing, and have a song more than once, you will catch on when to sing, how loud to sing, when to change your voice. It's just a matter of a little practice. Especially since this is for home, you should get plenty of practice and I would suggest you buy the regular discs with no lead vocals. If you buy Pop Hits Monthly, they have each song on the disc with 2 versions, one with lead vocals and one without. If you buy these ones with the lead vocals left in them, at some point you will get better and not even use them any more most likely.

Some companies such as Party Tyme only show the standard tracks on some databases like KJ Pro. Their discs actually have dual sets. One set is with lead vocals for practice, and the other set is of the same songs minus lead vocals for standard karaoke use. Both sets display lyrics on screen.
