Between Glee & Beiber... are we experiencing a karaoke renaissance?

Beiber crashes wedding when he hears his own song as karaoke

Maybe he can't without a pitch correction.

Beiber's crashing of a reception is -in my opinion- simply wanting to focus the spotlight of attention on himself. Sad really.

I'm glad that it looks like the DJ didn't (from what's in the video) make a big deal over it because the real stars of a wedding reception is the bride and groom.

In this day and age of Youtube and cellphone cams, when you are a half-million dollar act your manager would do *anything* to stop you from doing it. It isn't worth it.

I have some friends who are classic rock musicians with a name, and even at their upper 5-digits per night fee I can't see them ever getting up and going without rehearsal and very good control over what they are doing. You can't afford to damage the brand.

I disagree. I think doing this gives you street cred, makes you look fun/normal/human AND would be an instant viral sensation. THAT is what a manager would do anything for. It certainly didn't hurt Bono/U2 when he sang Psycho Killer at a Brazilian karaoke bar or Jewel when she did her undercover karaoke bit. Unless of course, you don't have the chops to pull it off.

smart kid - home boy. He creates a fuss wherever he goes, and in all likelihood realizes that a brief visit from him can only be good - a great memory for the wedding attendees and yes, a good dose of street cred. I have a feeling that his handler allows him much leeway in making career decisions...similar to Taylor Swift. These durned younguns anyway.

Too bad he's a marketed piece of meat who hasn't paid any real dues whatsoever & his crap music (music?) is bludgeoned into the psyche of an instant gratification society via the media. The kid is no artist.

Don't think he'll be remembered much 40 years from now.

Now this artist will be remembered even though they are dead.

Also, if you want street cred, Bieber has nothing against this late artist.

With that thin voice, and 16-years-old worth of musicianship, how you gonna *have* the chops?

The Jewel thing, if she had bombed she would have just not come back. I bet she rehearsed, too. For Bono, he's on the downslope and is a huge enough star that it wouldn't matter much. Both of those are musicians who have done these songs in concerts myriad times in many situations. Pretty safe.

I just can't imagine it having a good chance of sounding decent, and if it doesn't sound decent it isn't going to be a viral sensation. It kind of is already anyway, so he gets the upside without the risk.

As far as publicity and buzz, he's got plenty already.
