Well, its been one year since I got GEM set #1. When this product debuted, there was much speculation and fear about the unique licensing agreement.

In the first year I have had:

  • No requests for audits
  • No requests for financial records
  • No requests for additional funds
  • No requests for the discs back
  • No harassment
  • No changes in the lease terms
  • No surprise fees

In fact, I only heard from them once and that was when I received a free update disc replacing half a dozen mis-labled/missing tracks.

I am still ecstatic about this set and have zero remorse!

Okay, I'm glad you're happy with your gem set, but let me ask you this:

If you didn't trade in any discs, and the gem set was $4,000 (rounding for ease) can you honestly say that you've used $1,000 (or so) dollars worth of them over the year?
In other words, would you have spent $1,000 on discs that covered the same songs you really played over the year?

Keep in mind that I'm not bashing anything, I just want to know if -economically- it was a good deal. I know you're happy with the quality etc... but that part doesn't count in this equation.

This goes out to any of you who have purchased the lease to use the GEM series from SC. I have a few questions too....

Did you have any SC discs before you purchased/leased the GEM series?

If "Yes," how many SC discs did you have, and how may repeat songs do you now have as a result of this purchase (SC songs on discs compared against SC songs on GEM ONLY)?

I say about 20 duplicates but that was because I didn't search on about four discs what I already had. ONce I realized I was duplicating my songs I started looking at what I already had in my songlist and eliminating the dupes.

Danny, it doesn't matter that you removed the duplicates from your system. The point I am making is that you now HAVE the duplicate songs. As for only having 20 duplicates, I guess you didn't have many SC discs to start with (before you added the GEM series to your library), therefore making that purchase worth your while.

Cue,

That is the reason I would not purchase the GEM system for my main system there are none to very few songs in it that I don't already have a Sound Choice version of. The simple fact is that between my Spotlight disc and my Foundation and Brick set's I have a huge amount of repeats already.

However, I have very few Sound Choice in my second system (the vast majority of it is Chartbuster's Essentials sets (all of them). Along with misc. sets of Pioneer, All Hits, Nutech, etc., While there will be massive repeats between what I already have and the GEM series I will still be adding it to my second system at some point. When I add the GEM sets to it I will remove all other off brands from it and it will only be SC and CB.

Cue You're right. I had 16 sc discs out of 192 discs in my system when it was audited, I added 5 alongside the GEM series when I was in Charlotte. Total songs before the trip was 2,554 on cdg and I won't count the supercdg's because I pulled them as soon as I got home with the GEM series.

I think the best part about that Gem Series is that unlike previous Sound Choice sets there are no duplicates in the set itself. If you already own most of the Sound Choice collection then of course this set wouldn't really benefit you, but if you're new to the business or have just decided to add Sound Choice to your collection then this Gem Series is great in my opinion.

Well unless it was fixed in the updates mentioned by someone, I have personally found 4 repeats in the catalog list provided by soundchoice

Now i just have to go back and look to remember what they were :D

All i can remember off the top of my head is clementine

Still 4 out of 6,000 tracks is better than any previous method of purchcase. *I can't even count the number of times I've gotten a version of 'devil went down to georgia' from buying a seperate set I wanted.

4 out of 6,000 are excellent numbers to say the least.

However with all the strings attached like the restrictions, licensing agreement and perpetual payment plan makes living with duplications a LOT easier.
