At the place I sing the selection is about half pop, a fifth country, a tenth standards and a tenth rock'n'roll, with the rest comprised of rock, jazz, blues, and disco, and some TV themes and christmas tunes. We've got 1000 tunes. What kind music are you getting?

Depends on the night & crowd entirely. Could be mostly country one night to mostly rock another, then maybe mostly alternative. But every night has a little bit of something.

The places I go to and occasionally host at are solidly Country and a bit of Rock thrown in. I'm sorry to say that I'm the ONLY one that does Pop, Standards, Showtunes, Jazz and Big Band. Guess I'm a dinosaur.

I was a little surprised to hear about rock being done, but I think its because I was defining rock differently. I'd probably consider it pop because we reserve rock only for the screamer tunes and heavy metal and acid rock stuff. I'm not surprised at all about the country stuff. That genre lends itself well to karaoke.
Keep it up with those standards, penn. I wish there was a bigger selection because we've just about looted all the Frank, Dean and Tony. We've got more Frank than anything else on our sheet, even Elvis. I'm 45 but its a kick to see kids in their twenties doing that stuff.

Our weekend shows on average are probably like a 30/50 country/rock - rock meaning everything from the 50's - today (including the oldies/classic rock/metal/alternative/pop rock/pop) Then the other 20% will go to standards/show tunes/traditional/even original tunes. But then like I said our shows will vary from night to night so there is no telling what you will hear on any given night.
I know of one club here that is strictly r & b/urban/rap. You wouldn't find anything rock/country/or anything else for that matter. We have a club that is strictly rock - nothing else listed. Very popular with the college kids.

As much as I despise rap its great to know that there is a place that they can go to do that stuff. At least I don't have to hear it. Down here on Bourbon St. there's a tourist trap called Cat's Meow that does karaoke every night. Its all disco and hip hop, and all the acts are like groups of five or six "performers". You can tell a lot of them are doing this stuff on a drunken dare. Its a sight to see (try karaokecam on nola.com), but I don't consider it karaoke, and it keeps them away from the neighborhood clubs.
