We are having a Halloween contest tonight, all songs themed somehow with Halloween. Just looking for your suggestions for a song selection. Also, there will be a winner for the event, even though it's just for fun. But...at the cost of upsetting anyone who is there to sing their hearts out, how should we judge this?

Is it a Karaoke Contest based on singing Halloween themed songs, or a Halloween Contest where there just happens to be Karaoke?

Sound Choice 8472 --- RHPS
Werewolves of London
Monster Mash
Little Red Riding Hood
Moondance
Spooky
Ghostbusters

Instead of having a"contest", just put everyone's name in a hat that signs a Halloween themed song, and draw for a winner towards the end of the night.

Love it.
This is a fantastic idea.
Karaoke for the deaf.
But agree with no contest.

Halloween songs yes, and ty for the great song suggestions. Also, I love the idea of putting names in a hat. We are going with that idea!

We did the name in the hat thing, it went over great. It was just for fun anyway and the bar had lots of consolation prizes to hand out. Fun night!

A little late for my post regarding Halloween contest. It seems like every year we get complaints on costume contests. Last year, we assigned the club manager to pick 4 winners. (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc). Lots of unhappy people. He favored the people he knows personally. Year before that, we did the applause meter system. We were told we let people get so close to the meter so it will register more decibels.

Last Saturday, all in costumes were given a voting form and vote for the person they think should win the contest, with the assurance that others will vote for them. They weren’t happy with that either, because people brought in lots of friends. It was suggested next year we should pick only 10 best costumes, and then sing. They can’t be in the contest if they don’t want to sing. They will be judge from their costume & ability to sing. Grrrrrrr! Seems like you can’t please everyone. Any ideas I can implement for next year?

Narrow it down to 5 or so......then confuse them. Inform them that the costume getting the lowest number of votes will win, and they must vote for someone they don't want to win, to help the costume they want to win....... might not work, and though there will be unhappy people, they will also be confused.......and at least it will be something different... :)
