Ok, I know that there are some of you that also DJ, as well as KJ. We have 1 gig a week where it's strictly DJ, which is quite fun.
The bar is doing theme nights every now and then, and this Friday is "Jimmy Buffett" night. Now, they don't want 4 hours of Buffett. They want Buffett mixed in with "beachy dance music". Now, this is mostly an under 30 crowd, so it's not necessarily the Beach Boys stuff, although there may be a little of it. They also mention Calypso music.
Now, when I think of songs like that, I think of "Jammin'" (Marley?), and "Red, Red Wine" (by UB40).
What are more artists and songs along that theme, that give people a "tiki party" type theme. On a beach, with the little tiki bar, etc. You know, Carribean/Hawaiian vacation music (excluding Don Ho, please).
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

Definitely get some surf music. Might want to check out the Insect Surfers in addition to Dick Dale, Ventures and others. This band has been around for a long time and has some interesting material.

You should have enough music to be able and mix a regular song or two in. After all, sometimes people don't want to hear that music all the time.
But another suggestion is to play other artists that are similar to Buffett. You know "People who like Jimmy Buffett also like..."

For Calypso music, you can look for songs by Byron Lee and the Dragoneers and of course the overplayed "crossover" hit Hot, Hot Hot (Ole, Ole) by the Arrows (not the Buster Poindexter version). Another song with a bit of island flare that will pick up the tempo is Don't Turn Around by Aswad. Bob Marley also recorded a version of "Sun is Shining" with a hard driving dance beat. "Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth is also catchy tune (reggae).
Cheers.
