Call me old fashioned, but I still believe in sort of keeping some of my business tactics secret. When someone asks "Where do your leads come from" or "Exactley why do people prefer your karaoke"?, I often abstain from commenting. I know my competition lurks on this site. A California based website that caters to the West Coast, and I am located in Nowhere, Michigan.

I understand that this is a public forum, but keep in mind that everything you say about your otherwise tightly guarded business tactics are a simple google search away for your competitors.

You may as well call them up and just tell them how you are succeeding. I mean, it's not rocket science to some or most of us, but it is to some folks.

Ha! Right you are. I don't mind helping someone out - don't get me wrong. I just don't want that information to be used against me. If someone PM'd me with a question, I'd be happy to answer it. I just don't feel it is smart to answer specific business questions in a very public forum (probably the most visited karaoke forum in the US).

It makes me feel a bit strange, also, and I have abstained from participating in other similar threads. Not that we have anything great to hide, just seems weird to let the people who want to run us out of town know everything that we are up to. But even that is sort of a stupid worry because they come in all of the time and check, anyway.

I don't mind sharing experiences and think it is great that singers would come on and say what they like or dislike about shows. But I don't think if someone doesn't share everything that people should presume they don't have a clue or a plan.

@TroyVnd27 - Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you posted this in regards to the two questions I posted?

There is only one of me , i am not a multiple operator , if someone comes along and takes a residency off me of course i would be annoyed but also i would be questioning what i was doing wrong.

I do not mind letting people know what i do, often we have our own styles , and copying or actually having the minerals to go out and try that is beyond some , often you either have that something factor or you dont , but i will help anyone, i am not scared of competition and most things of what i do are no secret, putting them all together is the hard work.

but if anyone wants to know what little i do , i am willing to offer it for what little its worth.

Karaoke hosting is not a secret recipe or a patent infringement..

why are so many hosts so uptight and miserable or hyper serious on this forum?

Smile a bit guys , come on it wont hurt!

The way a show is put on is no trade secret because anyone can come in and see it. But if one is planning to add something new or expand to some novel place then it is better to share it after it has been in effect rather than alert the competition to get there ahead of you.

For me, it is picking who I want to share with. We often share info with other hosts or cover each others shows but we also have hosts in our area who are conniving, no ethics, badmouthing dirty tricksters and I don't see the point in helping them.

there lies the road to paranoia ..if your second guessing and covering up your exam sheet , your hardly focusing on your game.

yes people steal my ideas , yes people try things i started in my area, i am always one step ahead in thinking of new things that sometimes work and sometimes don't.

wont stop me being helpful even to potential threats , showing you have nothing to fear makes them think , like pack dogs and sharks you let them smell fear and they often want blood or will see an opening. As long as your not arrogant and constantly trying i am a believer that hard work and a positive attitude will almost always bring you out on top in the end.

Rob, we live in a very different culture.
There seems to be an underlying assumption that things are the same everywhere.
You could not even start to guess what it's like for Lep. and others over the pond.

True enough. We all suffer from extreme paranoia brought on by restricted arterial blood flow to the brain due to too much Ranch Dressing and cold Beer.

You haven't noticed the connection between bears and ranch dressing yet?

I'll have to spell it out for you:

Bears LOVE to eat Englishmen that have been infused with ranch dressing. They really don't like the "zesty Italian" stuff because it gives them heartburn.

But if you dip an Englishman in Ranch... they go crazy for that!
