I would.

I wouldn't necessarily leave or look for another show unless the versions they replaced them with weren't as good.
Interestingly enough i've got new singers from clubs that have done just that.

I guess that depends on the motivation of the singer... are they:

#1. there to share the evening with friends at a fun karaoke place or,

#2. there to perform and impress whatever audience happens to be present?

If they are there to have a fun night with friends, the brand doesn't matter.
But if they're there to show everyone what a great performer they are, then it matters.

Which one are you?

Well I guess i'd have to put myself into the second catagory, however it doesn't accurately fit. I look at it if a song isn't singable or sounds like garbage then it isn't fun to sing!

I can't answer the poll. I would probably stay at the show, because there are many songs which I sing that are not SC songs; however, the 2nd choice about being able to sing any version (other than SC) doesn't cut it for me either. Now, there are certain types of music which I will always avoid from SC (Broadway being one, because SC just has not done Broadway right), but on other brands, there are some songs that I couldn't sing either (because of them done poorly).

The brand isn't as important to me as my familiarity with a specific song on a specific brand.

EDIT: More to the point... I would not walk out on a show that doesn't have SC discs (or won't play that brand); however, (as Joe C stated in a later post) ANY version WON'T do for me either. SC isn't as important to me (even if I might prefer to sing from them for certain songs). That's just not the make-it or break-it for me to leave.

If both shows were equal other than the content of the library, then yes. The problem being there isn't equality (sound mix, host personality, bar prices, atmosphere, etc) amongst shows.

I'd leave the show if any quality brand was missing. To me SC, CB & PHM equals quality brands. If all they had to offer is SGB, MM or Stardisc then I would look elsewhere for a show especially if the reason they were absent the quality brands was because of the methodology of lawsuits. I might be able to overlook it if that's all they could afford to buy and were just starting out but I doubt I would return to the show.

The poll was weighted toward SC. The second answer is what I chose by default. Of course I am concerned about the version, though the only option given by the poll was ANY version would do.

This is certainly NOT the case- I simply depend very little ( in fact only the song Kind Of A Drag) on SC. My preferences range from DK and CB to MM for oldies, and SuperCore and Zoom for Pop.

So ANY version WON'T do, but SC is unimportant to me.

I'll agree with cueball on this one. It's going to depend on what else they offer, if they have a good mix I'll stay. A lot of what my friends and I like to sing is not available on SC or when it is, I often prefer a different version. We have actually walked out of shows that only offered sound choice and nothing else, because they didn't have what we wanted to sing.

Don't get me wrong, I like SC and as a KJ if a singer doesn't have a preference I'll give them the SC version if I have it and I feel it's the best version I have. But SC is not the all to end all. When I took over my Mon. night show it had been running successfully for over 12 years and had less than half a dozen SC discs in their library.

In keeping with the topic...No, I wouldn't look elsewhere if SC was not available.

Yes, I like to get appreciated as a singer. And amazingly enough, I seem to be at times. I like to sound as good as I can. And apparently you, the great arbiter of all that is right in the world, have a problem with that. That's OK. I can take it. You may have a life to be envied, but knowing what I know about the crappy lives of people who tell other people to get a life, I think that sight unseen I will take mine. Both spiritually and financially.

Do I think I am the second coming of Elvis or even of David Hasselhoff? I do not. When someone tells me I sound just like Randy Travis, I tell them "you might want to listen closer to Randy Travis". But I do appreciate the compliment.

Crappy instrumentals bother me. I hate it. I know how bad it sounds in comparison to the good stuff. And Sound Choice is some excellent material. If the parade of bad instrumentals is relentless, I will have a reason to look elsewhere. Will it be the deciding factor? Maybe, maybe not.

Yes it IS supposed to be fun. If a track is bad that one cannot sing to it, then it is not fun. Born On The Bayou -CCR I saw in a book years back and thought - great, love the song, thought i'd give it a shot. Unfortunately it was a MM version (no manu indicator in this particular book) and completely unsingable - not fun! SC came out with a version, sang it - FUN! I don't care who is listening, I sing because I like to sing. If someone likes listening, great. But if I don't enjoy the track that I am singing to, there is no point.

That is difficult for me to answer because for years I have attended shows with mixed brands, one with mainly MM and SGB. But we always had our own discs. So as long as one can bring their own discs, it didn't matter.

Having fun and singing well are not mutually exclusive.

I think passion just got trampled on.
Anyway as a KJ or co KJ now...

I like song tracks from several different brands, and I will always find something to sing from whatever they have. The vast majority that I would prefer to sing from is definitely Sound Choice. Several factors make for fun karaoke, and track selection is just one of them
If you don't have the same tracks as I own, and refuse to play the ones I bring on a home made cdg from my legally purchased cdgs, then this would have a negative effect on my comming back to your show very often. Forget legalities, time has proven that any action against you for playing a customer's home made cdg is BS.
And as for what Chip says... if you think #1 & #2 can't go together.....then once again you show your lack of understanding of just about most everything.....

I think I would have to change as the one show that I do attend the KJ is 90% SC so if he dropped the brand he wouldn't have much left.
