Since my laptop has an HDMI output, I'm using HDMI with the main bar tv whenever I can. I also use an HDMI splitter to split the signal to an HDMI to S-video or composite (yellow) down-converter as many bars still have the composite input tv's. Since I'm running music videos now as well as karaoke, the video quality isn't nearly as crisp from composite, so I'm trying to use HDMI whenever I can. Also, at private parties, I'm offering a 37" flat screen setup for the guests as well as a tv for the singers. I'm using HDMI for that.

There's nothing wrong with doing it either way. Composite is more cost effective, but HDMI offers better overall quality, especially for running 720x480 Standard DVD quality) videos. The low resolution of karaoke graphics (320x240 in most cases) tends to be blocky on larger screens (I plug into a 60" on Friday nights with composite) but they're still legible.

Now that most bars have upgraded to HDTVs with HDMI inputs, is anyone else using this technology for their karaoke shows? I'm curious about what other KJs experiences have been with using HDMI video. Also, how many screens do you run your show on?

I find there is no point since cdg's are less than HD anyway. Unless you are running video (even then not really worth it) there really is no point. Cable is cheaper & easier to split IMO.

Now that I am using a full size PC with the option of multiple video cards I will leverage HDMI as an additional option. But I carry cabling for all connections. As Lonman points out, Karaoke Graphics and even the old Pioneer LD's are low quality. HDMI won't make those videos any less cheesy. -Chris

Same here my laptop has HDMI output and my singers monitor also has HDMI I use a HDMI splitter and run over to the house 42" flat screen. I know that CDG graphics are nowhere near hi def. but the overall apperance is still cleaner and any pics or background screens look dynamite.
