Removing vocals from a track is only possible if the music was record 100% left/right with the vocals in the middle.
Here's my explanation.................
What you have to imagine is a live band on a stage with the vocalist standing in the middle and the instruments faaning out left and right from there. By using software to remove vocals, what the software does, is cut out the middle slice of the "stage", therefor removing the vocals.
The problem is is that when studios record the artist, they don't want you to be able to cut the vocals, that's why they blend the sound. (and for many other reasons, but that's one of them) You'll find that a lot of the older 33's, 45's and 78's actually respond extremely well with "vocal eliminators".
Another thing, if you remove your vocals, you'll find a loss of bass to your song. The reason for that is the bass player and drummer is positioned in the centre of the stage, so..............cut the vocals, you loose the bass. 
Without the master track, you'll never be able to effectively eliminate the vocals. The software does not "see" vocals and instruments. It just cuts the centre core from a stereo file.
