We always discuss and argue about who the best mfrs. are, so I thought about having a little fun...

In your opinion, what karaoke manufacturer has/had the absolute WORST quality tracks on average than any other?

In my opinion, Idol Makers is the absolute bottom of the barrel. I have never heard a track that they made that was even useable, much less decent.

Your opinion?

Never had or heard an "Idol Makers" disk

Am going with Stardisc as my pick for worst.

Stardisc is my choice too. Music Maestro is the other worst brand I think of, because they butchered so many tracks I sing. (Yes, I know people claim they have some good stuff. I never see it.)

There are some other really bad brands, but I don't see enough of them in the wild for them to matter.

When SD or MM comes up, usually when I run into one of those no-brand books I dislike, I ask for another version or sing another song.

Music Maestro would have to be the worst on my list. I have a bunch of their discs from the libraries I have picked up, but I can't remember ever playing one at my own show.

Honkey Cat Karaoke

The company produced 6 discs and then went out of business. All the tracks sound like they were created on a Casio keyboard.

That's where I was going.

Otherwise Music Maestro, Nu-Tech, BMB/Nikkodo (most), Sweet Georgia Brown (most) are all in the bottom tier for me.

I didn't count them. I suspect anyone who bought one of their disks -- I was a sucker -- played a couple tracks and never listened again.

NorthStar by far followed up Sunfly in distant second

Sunfly has some real GEM tracks that I think are some of the BEST ever made, IMHO. Listen to some of their 90s and 2000s hits by British artists, like Oasis, Radiohead or Coldplay.

Nu-Tech is easily the worst of everything I own.

Some of their earlier stuff (93-94 circa) wasn't bad as they took music from other manus - they did get sued as well for that. Can't remember which songs right off hand, that are the Sound Choice music tracks.
Their Pearl Jam tracks weren't too bad either - since they were the only ones at the time, but many still actually prefer those that broke their teeth with them.

I never heard of Idol Maker either.

Here are my picks....

Nu Tech --- Top of my list for WORST!!! I'm glad I only purchased 2 of them in the 1000+ discs that I own.

Sound Images and Standing Ovation - These are my Number 2 picks for all-time WORST. It's hard for me to decide which one was worse. I consider both of these brands to be "COASTERS."

Sweet Georgia Brown - I used to rank Music Maestro as being pretty bad until SGB came along. Not only have they messed up on the music for a lot of the songs, but they also messed up on the timing of the word-swipes in a lot of their songs. Did anyone ever buy their Weird Al Yankovic disc??? What was up with the applause tracks that they threw into some of those songs... And as for "Grapefruit Diet," the graphics for the whole 1st stanza was 1 full line out of synch with the music.

Music Maestro - I've always considered this brand to be about 50-50 hit or miss. But, I do have about 30 of their discs, and there are even songs that I prefer to sing from MM as versus SC.

BMB/Nikkodo - Overall, the music is very synthy. Other than that, I feel that (in a pinch), they are at least usable.

I have idol makers. Rarely does one get sung, they aren't very good but if someone had to sing a song and that was the only manu I had for that song,,,,,

I see no one has mentioned "Performance Tracks". Man they were bad.

Nikkodo is a close second.

I don't know about that... I don't think Performance Tracks or Backstage are that bad. IMO, they're not the best, but they're definitely passable and useable.

Idol Makers is a repackaged SGB, but fewer songs and tracks are listed alphabetically. They changed the ID screens but otherwise the music and graphics are the same including all the wrong words and typos.

Idol Makers definitely are some of the worst (and to think I bought a pack of 12 of their discs). That said, for learning a song I can live with it (if i don't have another version) - but I'll rarely bring them when I go to sing live. I'm not a fan of Star*Disc either.

If I could name one inconsistent manufacturer, it would be Legends. For example, most of their Billy Joel & Elton John stuff is decent, but then you get ones like Piano Man, or I'm Still Standing, and you wonder what were they thinking? I'm Still Standing was really bad! I've heard quite a varying level of quality between other Legends tracks as well.

Just points of interest:

Standing Ovation became Backstage- the logo even comes up on the screen.

Nutech is made by BMB/Nikkodo.... The few that I have have Nikkodo's name on the label in smaller print.
