I ran a decent sized contest about a year ago. Knew all the perils of running a contest, in particular the bad feelings they often generate.
I really thought we ran a good contest. Not really many complaints at the end about not being fair. Had some during the prelims, but I squashed them by saying ""Look, judging in this round isn't a big deal. There's 6 weeks to qualify at 4 different shows a week. If you don't qualify, then you don't deserve to advance". (We plucked judges from the crowd for prelims).
So, a few weeks ago, I was packing up my show and some guy started to harass me and told me he was going to take me out and beat the $$$$ out of me. I seriously could have not asked questions and commenced to whippin' his drunk a$$, but I was curious. Plus, no way I would ever "agree" to fight someone in a bar that I work at. Dude just kept insisting that I go outside. I had no good reason to go outside, so I sort of just turned my back...
Tonight, I found out WHY that guy wanted to attack me. Exact words from the bartender: "He said you disrespected him because he didn't win the karaoke contest".

Yup! Happened at every contest I ever put on. That's why I'll never do one again. I'll do the sound and the show for a contest that someone else sponsors, but never ever ever another one by me. Not worth it and usually costs me money and tons of effort.

This guy has been holding a grudge for a year?
He has many other problems than just that I'm figuring.

+1 Could've been the same result by not letting him sing a song after you cut off slips. I've had people threaten me because I wouldn't bump their song next. This guy has alot more issues than just losing a contest.
