Here in South Carolina we have a local radio DJ who's been in the DJ business for about 50 years, who just the other day on his radio show was talking smack about Karaoke with a DJ friend on the phone, saying haw "bad" most singers are, and crap like that. To me It don't matter how good or bad my singers are, it's how much fun they are having. That's what it's all about. Yea, sure it's fun to have a contest for the 'Best' singers (Idol), but what's more fun is getting people to leave their inhibitions behind and get up there and sing like no one is watching, fill your tip jar and make the bar lots of money. Then he had the nerve to say that he sang David Allen Coe's 'You never even call me by my name' "without looking at the screen." and bragging about how everybody said how good he was, he has a good speaking voice, but not singing, I've heard him. I even hooked up to his DJ system at my wife's Christmas party once, for some of the Doctors to sing and he acted put out. Hey DUMBA$$, they're paying you, don't be an @$$. He even still thinks saying "black people help the white people" about dancing is funny, not when you have a large mixed crowd of Well Paid Heart Surgeons. I used to like him, but I think he is becoming a crotchity old fart in his 70+ year state. He was doing the 'Oldies' station on FM, and was recently moved to an AM morning talk station, on his way out....I think so.
Just Sayin'.

LOL I used to think the same way... tip jar? But I finally put one out, at the request of numerous customers! I don't get a lot, and that's ok. But it is nice when somebody makes the effort to come up and put a dollar in saying, "Thank you for such a good time!" or, "You do a great job!". It's not the dollar that counts, it's the thought and effort that the customer puts in. :)

Which is about 30 years too long. Old radio DJ's are just sad. Pity them because they really can't do anything else. Most are still deluded into thinking that are somehow famous or still clinging to the "It's better than a real job!" mentality they had when they were 24.
