I recently picked up another gig, and for ease of in and out am thinking of using their house system. The only question I have for you all is if any of you have ever placed the speakers "behind" the singers? The house speakers are suspended and are all the way to the back of the stage (this is a very small stage) approximately 12 feet from where the singer would be. I have tested it out, and I get no feed back issues etc.

I guess, as long as you aren't getting feedback, you should be ok. Make sure to test different mic settings, like the pumped up mic for the singer that likes to whisper.

I have to set up this way in my smallest venue. If you don't have feedback issues, the next hurdle be getting singers used to it. You will, but stay by that sound board....

I would never do that.
Primarily because I don't want to have to buy speakers for the bar. most of the "in ceiling" speakers cannot handle a large scream, or someone dropping a microphone.

I know what my speakers can handle so I'm much more confident in that.

Unfortunately around this area most companies do NOT use a stage monitor, but instead set up with the speakers behind the singer and just don't turn the mics up past a certain point to avoid the feedback. You have to move around to find the sweet spot where you can actually hear yourself sing.

So far it has worked out pretty well. I have to agree thought, the "quiet" singer is hard to accommodate with this set up (feed back issues). other than that, I am pleased with the set up
