I've noticed several people referring to the "Big Three" karaoke producers. It seems that they are referring to:

1) A company that hasn't produced new karaoke tracks- with the exception of a single very limited run of one disc- for about 5 years

2) A company whose label has recently become defunct.

3) A company who has a reputation for very quick output of new releases- and very generic quality tracks.

Companies 1 & 2 seem to have had managerial problems, causing decisions to be made that cost them enough money to abandon production. I will add "for now" to help us go forward.

I see the"Big Three" as:

1) Stellar: The tracks are so-so, but they continue to make money the old fashioned (non-litigous) way, through karaoke quick production.

Note: I'm not sure this will be true in the future.

2) Pocket Songs: Minimal if any legal issues ( They actually seem to LICENSE their tracks before production), and very good quality. Financially still seemingly healthy. Targeted more for the home market lately, I think they will be picking up more and more bulk KJ sales as time goes on.

3) SyberSound/Party Tyme: Except for the fact that they have ALWAYS been targeted toward the home market, essentially the same as Pocket Songs.

There are your "Big Three" Karaoke PRODUCERS.

Funny you mention this as I planned on heading to Target today and picking up some Party Tyme discs. This one local store is removing their small karaoke music section completely. They mentioned this to me a couple weeks back when I picked up the All-Star Download cards from them.

I only have a couple Party Tyme discs and admittedly, have never listened to them. They are selling the DC'd discs for 99 cents each so if nothing else, I get some cheap coasters.

...Well I know nothing about Pocket Songs or Party Tyme but I do know that All Star seems to be consistent
with Graphics and Music. Not the Greatest but definitely better than several other options out there.

Party Tyme is alright, I have one disc that has a song with a missing verse, cannot remember which one off top of my head as it's been replaced. Otherwise music isn't too bad.

Party Time music is good and lyric sweeps decent.

Only problem is sometimes their renditions, like "I'm Yours" by jason mraz has extra words and extended music.

Also a Sinatra song (which one?) has extended music and just won't fade properly

Good post Joe btw!

Recently someone wanted to sing "Foolish Games" by Jewel. I picked out the SC version and they got all confused. This is apparently an album version with a LOT of extra verses compared to PHM version!

The PHM version of Foolish Game was the 'Batmix' version from one of the Batman movies. It was shorter, and had more instruments. The SC was the full length album release. Although the PHM disc is so hard to get anymore, I haven't heard many that stumble on the SC version as far as getting confused. I have both versions listed, but the SC version is what gets picked every time.

The few Party Tyme discs that I have heard played at Karaoke shows, I never really cared for. IMO, it's just remixed music at a disco beat.

As to Sound Choice being "dead" they still sell disks and digital, Still have a huge library compared to other vendors, even if it is now "dated" still gets requested/played. Last nights show songs played:
GEM 47 / other SC 5 / THM 7 / CB 2 / ASK 1 .

The Sound Choice digital download section redirects to Karaoke Channel, which is A) not the same company, and B) not for commercial use.

I was referring to the GEM itself as digital. There have also been rumors of new material being available later this year to certified KJs . Because of the limited number of certified hosts my guess is it may be some of the karaoke channel tracks. This is speculation on my part but it would make sense.

Is karaoke channel producing new tracks or is it just SC's old stuff with a new logo?

A quick look showed Adele Rolling in the deep so there is newer music on there. Who is making it I don't know.

They're absolutely producing new tracks, and offering for free on their Youtube channel, as well as offering an MP3+G purchase on their website. Only catch -- not for commercial use.

Well they actually had a specific disc of purposely remixed music like that, it's not their entire line.

No knock on All Star, but they are not karaoke PRODUCERS. They are a compilation company like like SuperCore, All Hits, Hot hits, and others, using other companies' tracks with said companies' permission- they don't produce their own. Their quality is that of the company that they use for any individual track.

Dead they are, if out of production for 5 years... They sell old product that has been shifted to MP3 discs- that's it.

They get requested the same way that MM, DK, and other labels that no longer produce do.
