Last night I used my new Yorkie sub for the first time. This was a DJ gig only and looking for a festive party/dance atmosphere. I was a fill in for the normal DJ who was hosting the annual Hog Wild Rodeo in Conesville. The gig was outdoors and surprisingly was jam packed. Smaller crowd was expected due to the Rodeo. The sub passed my test, I am very happy with it except for one thing. At 136 lbs, it's difficult to get in and out of the trailer and up onto stages. I had to have one of the bouncers help me lift it into the trailer at the end of the night. I've looked online and haven't seen any type of ramps that would work for my sub which has wheels on the back but most ramps do not have solid floors but more framed floors for bigger wheels. Any suggestions? I'd also like it to be lightweight so I can just place it in the trailer. |

A lightweight set of motorcycle ramps could work.. or a piece of plywood.. Use the KISS principle.. |

I knew I could count on Johnny! I like the motorcycle ramps, however again, the surface is waffled and my wheels aren't big enough to glide over. |

look for a wheelchair ramp...they are waffled but very close together.... you may also want to consider changing the wheels on your sub as an option. Athena |

Check with U-Haul or similar company to see if they have ramps. If not make a ramp using 3/4" plywood as a surface framed and braced with 2x4s. |

I use a wheelchair ramp. A bit expensive, but works well with caster wheels. |

Easy answer... just build one out of a piece of 3/4" plywood, 2 pieces of 2x2 angle iron -coped at corners and bolted to sides of plywood.. then take 2 different pieces of lighter gauge flat sheet metal, and attach at ends of plywood to make the transition easy on your wheels... I made one just like this for my trailer, only weighs about 30 pounds of less. I just put it in my trailer with my gear. Only cost me about 25 bucks to make... easy peezy |

Here is a pic of the one I built. It is about 5 feet long and about 30 inches wide. Has 2x2 angle on each side, coped at corners to remove sharp corners. Angle is bolted using nyloc nuts and short carriage bolts (pre-drill holes) At each end is a piece of lighter gauge flat metal sheets attached with wood screws (recessed) so the transition from ground to ramp,,, and ramp to trailer is easy on the wheels of my gear. The plywood is a simple piece of plywood 3/4 inch thick cut down to the size I wanted. Very study, not slick and only took about 45 minutes to build. I can handle it with one hand easily and it stores inside my trailer with all my gear. Like JD said,, K.I.S.S. .. Keep it simple stupid... no need for elaborate or expensive store bought stuff. Nothing to be ashamed of to build something that works for your needs.
