All systems have processes, services And subroutines running in the background such as explorer.exe which is the shell or the interface between the kernel (basic os) and everybody else. When setting up a computer for any certain task one wants to disable the processes and services that are not necessary and put an unneeded tax on system resources. To see which ones are running do the cntrl alt del..... In win 2k pro and I think in xp also a window pops up with a tab task manager. Click on it then there are 3 tabs on the top Applications Processses and performance. Under the processes tab it lists the procs running in the background After awhile there gets to be quite a few unless you know what msconfig does... Some are recognised but if you are wondering about a specific one do a google search on it . There will be pages of info on it even if it is virus related.
I just thought it would be a good troubleshooting tool es if you were having to reboot during a show or whatever a list of the procs and apps goin might provide a clue as to whats happpening. The lists would be consistent with what various hosters etc kj's are running. For a good site on tuning xp go to musicxp.net If you use win 2k i have a link for it too....
