Yes they changed their look in all series (minus Found/Bricks) around 2006-07.

Just wonderin’, Chris - can’t help but notice the red check mark & initials on the green disc. Was that the mark from the audit? Hmmm, I hope not.

Lonman - I figured that was the case, but wamted confirmation to ensure they weren't VERY high quality counterfeits.
Brian - Not Audit. Just the leftover marks from the previous KJ's filing system. You should see some of the craziness on the discs i have purchsed in bulk. I even have a few discs that are 100% legit, that have full paper labels over them with disc filing info on them. Can only spot them by shining a very bright flashlight through them from the data side.

I believe they (SC reps) said that the marking of the discs(for an audit) would be in the center ring of the disc (on the clear (no data part) surface).

And with an infrared stamped number, not visible to the naked eye - unless you are really straining.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, Chris, sorry, but I just need to be informed. The mods can delete my post later. Cue, I'm cool with that as long as it's in the center ring & not in the data area. I wonder how many auditors. I would imagine two, one doing the audit, the other doing the marking. I have 1,244 SC discs - that would take a fair amount of time. 4 - 5 hrs? More if it's the skype process?

No worries on the hijack....
For the many discs, yes, about that long. And yes, longer via Skype I imagine.

The discs are stamped with a code registered to you only, and it is done with an invisible ink that can be seen with infrared. You can't really see it with the naked eye.

Thanks! Pardon my ignorance but this is an info learning curve topic for me. Scenario: If all my sc discs are to be processed, code stamped, registered ownership to me only & I decide to quit the business, then start selling my cd’s, am I obligated to disclose that info to the buyer, hence diminish the resale value? Notify SC about the sale? The name of the buyer(s)? See where I’m going with this? That would be over a thousand transactions if sold individually.

-Chris I had some like that I acquired in a bulk purchase. I almost tossed out as there were quite a few non-original discs as well with the same white label. I ended up setting out a casserole dish partially full of water with a couple of drops of dish washing soap in it. I'd put a couple of discs in and let them sit and after 5 or 10 mins I could easily rub off the label without damaging the disc by scraping.

Doesn't necessarily mean they were fakes, I have heard of manus using thermal printing. Anyone who likes FastTrax, they use thermal printing that will wash off in water. I have a gal that brings one in and the label - though looks 'legit', got wet and is all smeared up now, it's a bruned TDK disc though.

I will try that with the ones I have as well. Thanks! -Chris

Brian - Since very few if any audited folks have sold their discs post-audit, I don't think there is a well-defined established process. Athena and I did a disc swap where I sent her some Sound Choice discs. I wrote up a document detailing the discs I was sending her and forwarded a copy to Athena, we included Kurt in the email chain for tracking. -Chris

Willametteduck wrote: @Brian - It is my understanding that you need to let SC know what disc and when you sell/trade/destroy one. It is a pain in the rear, but it is part of the agreement you sign when you go through the audit.. Willam... why would you need to tell SC (let alone anyone) that you have destroyed a disc that was audited. If you have destroyed it, it means you are no longer in possession of it, thus you are no longer 1:1 with that particular disc, and you can not use the tracks that were on that particular discs in any way, shape, or form. You would have to destroy any copies of it as well, and you can not sell or trade the copy you might possess of it regardless of whether the original exists or not.
