I know EVERY show has them. Here are (some) of mine. Bill (the lizard), as in "lounge lizard". Sings Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Neil Diamond, and I might add, sings them "very good". We don't allow people bringing their drinks up to perform, so we bought him a "prop" drink to perform with as his schtick, as Frank, and Dean were known for it. Some favorites "Lady Is a Tramp, Fly Me To The Moon, September Morn, Ain't That a Kick In the Head. BTW, now wants to be known as "Cool". Next, we have El Guapo (real name Tony). Sings Julio Iglasius "style". Puts on the spanish accent for all of his songs. Sings songs like Guantanamera, Sukiyaki, Day-O (banana boat) Harry Belafonte, and of course Delilah by Tom Jones. ALWAYS singing to the ladies. What would you expect from "El Guapo" (the handsome one in spanish). Reminds the audience to have their pets spayed or neutered, and also tells them to give "themselves" a round of applause (for being such a good audience) at the end of them clapping for him. BOTH very entertaining. I have others, but thought I'd start by sharing these two. Any that you'd like to share??? Srnitynow |

Why not allow drinks on stage? |

For my 5 night venue, it is a house rule. They have a ton of speakers that are exposed and don't want drinks near them. I think they should be more worried about the grills getting kicked in by drink dancers, but not my rules. There are other venues I have worked where I have made the no drinks on stage rule. Usually because of the speaker configuration. Speakers near the stage have a tendencey to become coasters. But usually I have things set up so I don't have to worry about it in which case I have no issue with drinks on stage. -Chris |

Djunod, although this is "off topic", I'll answer your question. First, my table is next to the singer monitor. When someone comes up to sing, the last thing I need is to have them spilling their drink on the monitor, the mic, OR even worse, my setup table. My thoughts are that people are there to watch them SING, not drink. If they can't leave their drink for 3 minutes, they have alot more problems than my rules.... Anyone else have any "characters" to share???? Srnitynow |

I have no stories that match that. I do allow drinks on stage, but I always have a small stand (similar to a tv dinner stand) that is off to the other side, safely away from all my equipment. Using this method, I've never had a problem and everyone sees it and uses it without me saying a word. Of course, depending on the space for set up, I could see the no drink rule in some situations. |

I still use discs, and there's nothing more fun than a drunk singer being appreciative of you lining up coasters for their drink. |

Had a guy named Tony last night that lost a bet and had to sing Taylor Swift (you belong with me) but insisted the only way he could do it was to have a beer in hand while singing. I compromised and had him sing from the audience monitor away from my setup, etc. He appreciated it:) |

leopard lizard wrote: Our singers have discovered Karaoke Scene. I'm not talking..... L O L! That could be good or bad. At least they should appreciate your skills if they read from this forum. Now we do have one singer called "Too Tall" who is about 6 foot 8, late 50's or early 60's and has a very deep voice. He likes to sing Sixteen Ton and Ring of Fire. He happens to do a mean Patsy Cline - Walkin' After Midnight. |

Nicknames given by me over the years. Everyone gets one, but these are standouts. Iron Mike: A Kamakaze Karaoke specialist. Never sings the same song twice, and will try ANYTHING. Vinnie Elvis: Self explanatory, does a GREAT job, and would look just like him if Elvis was 6'4" and around 350 lb ( well......) Silent Dave: Sings great blues, but modulation is not his thing. I could turn his mic OFF and his voice would fill the room. He was the reason I added limiters. Ember: ( " Her real name is Amber, but I call her Ember because she's so hot"). One of the sexiest voices around, and chooses the songs that show it off. The Redneck Goddess: Country singer extraordinaire. Tops ANYONE I've seen on Idol or the other shows. Doesn't care, would rather cook.... She will, however, drink just about anyone under the table if in the mood to do so, and walk away with dignity..... The Voice: This lady sings anything from Streisand to Juice Newton, with a style all her own. Russell The Love Muscle: Not a great singer, but picks some of the funniest stuff. White Velvet: Kind of Mel Torme and Perry Como rolled into one. Featured in the karaoke documentary "Karaoke Knights". Women of all ages fall all over this older gentleman, and he eats it up. Pocket Cutie: Tiny women. won't discuss her singing, but she has become sort of a mascot/anchor singer at ALL my shows, which she attends without fail. She's very quiet, pleasant, and kind of shy- and not a diva at all, but everyone ELSE wants her to sing first........ Brick: This name has nothing to do with karaoke, but rather his recreational preferences. A fun Skinner singer. Got bunches more.......... |
