Hi all. After 8 months of using just my local pubs stuff and doing it all for free every Friday night, I refused payment, the pub has closed for good. Nowt to do with me i hasten to add. But I've been offered a paid gig in another pub, again using their stuff. But...I've just purchased all my OWN gear, discs the lot, so I'm going to be ready to fire up on my own in two weeks. I've heard of a pub, around the corner from my old local, that is interested in having Karaoke so I'm calling in tonight for a chat! Back to my question. I've been playing AVI files through a Karaoke box thing, very basic, but the AVI means I can add pictures into the background of the songs. In the new place they use a program called "sax and dottie" that doesn't take AVI files, which is a bit of a bore. What type files do you all use? Sorry for he long post. |

The industry standard is MP3+G for computerized hosts. Video file formats are typically only used for converted LaserDisc files. Option 1) Buy karaoke discs and then use something like CDGRip to rip down to MP3+G files. You can then ZIP them if you choose or leave them as is. Option 2) Buy Tracks from reputable online distributers and download them in MP3+G format (same as above). They will usually come zipped. You can leave as is or unZip them. -Chris |

Just like the majority on here that have them on the hard drive, there are 2 files. One is a CDG file and the other is a MP3 file. The program that we use is Compuhost and it takes the 2 to make one that the public sees on the screen. Sax N Dotties does the same thing. That's how they come on the discs is in 2 files and the programs read the 2 into 1. (very simple way of explaining) Personally I would rather have just the words and not videos and pictures while singing. Some of the songs are fast and I would rather not have the screen cluttered with something other than the words. But thats me and my opinion. |

Sax-n-Dottie's uses Winamp to play the files, and Winamp will play play AVI's with the proper codecs installed. What kind of "Karaoke box thing" were you using that played AVI's, and how were you adding pictures? |

My up and coming program will play AVIs. I'm a beginner when it comes to programming, but I am optimistic that my new program is going to at least be a player in the market. Somewhat plain is the karaoke/media player.... it's the utilities that sets it apart from the rest. |

I'm just an old time Luddite disc user, but have recently figured out how to overlay the lyrics onto video/pics if I'm feeling goofy. The only catch is that: The discs that display the lyrics have no graphics of their own ( kinda knocks out DK and Pioneer), the disc player is modern, as most of these have USB and card ports. I only do this at private parties, because it's a bit more complicated than when done by the PC hosts.... |

i rip to .bin so i have the same audio quality of ODB, and my software will allow the use of background images under the graphics os i get the best of both. storage space is so cheap, a 1.5tb drive cost me $99.00 a few years back and i have less than 800gb used including DJ music. |

I mean your going from a 3-5MB file to a file usually larger than 40MB.... |

320k MP3+G I use Karma, their software support kinda sucks but it's the best available option at $100. |
