This was probably discussed before, but of those of you who use books, which gets used more? How many of each do you have? Thanks

By artist is most popular. We print 6 by artist and 2 by title currently to save on cost because of our book size.

Artist.

I used to print one Title book but after a year of nobody asking for it I stopped.

Wow, this is good. I have been ripping {artist} - {title} - PHM or CB or TT etc.

I hope whatever book software I pick will be no problem with this format.
I've been correcting a lot of discs that have the title listed first or the name is George Jones instead of Jones, George. Royal pain in the keester and VERY time consuming.

Thanks guys and gals. :D

We print 15 of each and then sub-divide A-L and L-Z (and new arrivals).

Artist are usually the first goto's, however I also print title books & those are used just as much throughout a night. Right now I have 8 artist & 4 title but only due to the fact I need to replace 4 title binders, otherwise i normally have 8 & 8.

Our files are listed like this:
AH2001-01 - Van Halen - You Really Got Me
(that would be All Hits disc 2001 with song one)
BS9117-11 - Joel, Billy - Longest Time, The
(that would be Backstage disc 9117 with song 11)

I have gone thru and corrected for last name, first and several other problems with some Manus. I still go thru to double check the files, even if I have not added any just to catch any problems.

My recommendation to you is to print your books in a format like this.

Brooks, Garth
Friends In Low Places ##### Shameless #####
Two Pina Colada's ##### Two Of A Kind #####

Instead of:
Brooks, Garth Friends In Low Places #####
Brooks, Garth Two Pina Colada's #####
Brooks, Garth Shameless #####
Brooks, Garth Two Of A Kind #####

As you can see, it saves about 49% of the space. So, if your books are half the size, you can actually put both Artist & Title in the same book.

But Artist is WAY more popular, just like everyone says. To the point where I'm not printing anymore for a long time - need maybe one or two at the show. That's it.

when you get a few done download Latshaws song book generator and try it out.
you can pick various ways to print it out and it reads artist - song title - disc # and more.
it's free to d/l and try out but I think it only handles like 100 songs in the trial mode.

When I finally get down to doing me books, I am going to do half and half. My books will just be titles and artists. Most of my stuff in on computer, and I omitted the disc numbers. Keeps it nice and neat in my computer. If I decide to use my SC, I have them numbered B1 - B38. I started that when i was working that gig back in 04 - 05, to differentiate my stuff from the bar's stuff. The last disc I bought for that gig was SC 8825 Frank Sinatra. All the rest I bought just for me. It's funny, that was my 25th disc, so I numbered it B25.

Hopefully you'll at least add a manu code of some sort. Nothing worse for a singer thinking they are getting a good version of something when a Music Maestro or Sweet Georgia Brown version pops up on the screen. Happened to me a few times. I quit singing at shows with no manu indicators of some kind.

As I have mentioned, many many times, brands mean nothing here. Besides, it's not like I have a ton of different brands yet. In the six years I have been filling in for my friend, the few months I had that gig back in 05, only once has anyone asked me for a particular brand, and that was CB. He wanted Gimme Three Steps. He gave me HIS CB disc, because we didn't have it, and it sounded the same as the SGB version, which he didn't want. Brands aren't a big issue around here. BTW, my buddy's books, not one brand code anywhere.

Brands are probably more important than you think or want to admit. You just don't hear the complaints because 'no-one' uses brands in their books so what are singers going to complain about - they are forced to your standards. Or they just don't return, forcing them to spend their money elsewhere. You just never know what singers want. Be a leader, not a follower, add the brands - regardless of how many songs or brands you are using.
Unless the host were absolutely rude, or ignoring our group and playing favorites, I don't typically tell a host or bar management why I don't return if it's something simple that could be remedied like not having a brand in the book, I just do not go back, many people are also the same way in that respect.

I have found the usage of books with Titles vs Artists at my shows (rare as they are) to be about equal. I have 10 books printed up (5 of each).

Lonnie, my buddy has had the same singers for 12 years, plus new ones as the years have progressed. You would just have to come here to understand it. This isn't like your area. This isn't even like Long Island, where I came from. These people TRULY don't care. They keep coming back. Even our snow birds come back year after year.

2 portions in my book. First - by artist. I have my own numbering system. I don't go by manus' cd #'s.

4 by artist. I do not duplicate the Artists' name and I use the file-names as a basis for what I print via Latshaw's SLG.

Need a song title? Ask me, or use google for brains. Someone in the room is gonna have a smartphone. You'd be surprised at how smartphone users enjoy using their phones for something smart.

You can also use the kiosk, or the aforementioned smartphone to browse/search the entire book digitally.
